Live from the stand thread

Telemark,so what country was it again you live, you plant food plots that is cool.

First time out. Action has been picking up since last weekend. It's still windy but after 36 hours of rain and wind I feel good about tonight.

Norway. We have a small subspecies of red deer where I live. Other parts of Norway have reindeer, moose, and/or roedeer.

I have some decent plots, but it is challenging with the amount of rain we get. Rye is a lifesaver, but it's not cheap here.

Hopefully in the next couple years I can post more about North America. I have some plots and hunting spots there, but covid set me back a out three years on all those efforts.

Only saw one. A young eight point that I watched feed on the rye/clover for a half hour. I then got to see and hear him work a licking branch and pee in a scrape near my stand.

I haven’t seen anything on camera worth going out for yet. I will give it another week then I will be putting sometime in.

I also have seen nothing on camera behind the house worth getting excited about now when the big boys start moving around chasing does I may sit some.

Sat tonight for the first time. Saw a really nice up and comer 8pt. Came up the hill to my right and walked behind me at about 25 yrds. He never offered a shot. It is a deer I’d really like to see next year and since I shot 150’s the past two years I really don’t need to shoot another buck unless it’s the 7 1/2 year old I’m after.

I saw a spike and a medium stag. Neither are on my list. The hunt continues.

my west - deer eating sawtooths

To my south - 8 point 2 year old in lane grazing

To my north - wide 8 point probably 3 but
maybe 4 on acorns at woods edge

Occasional deer at other various spots.

Eastern front is clear.

Quite in the deer woods yesterday morning. Only a doe and a couple of fawns. Lots of ambient noise (everything in the distance dogs barking, chainsaw running, gun shots) in the neighborhood, but I dont think that probably played a big role in not seeing anything else. We are in that quite time before the rut ramps up in another week or 2. Did hear some turkeys and quail so that was a plus.

I’ve watched a big doe group this morning just gorging themselves with goodies. It started at the late dropping sawtooths. Then they worked on the wheat as they made their way to a persimmon tree. Now they are at an early dropping swamp chestnut oak.

Edit - a frisky 2 year old 8 point just cleared them out.

Looks like Kieffer for dessert today.

Just to be safe I’m spending the night. I have water, peanut butter and something to pee in. Won’t have to get up as early too, because I will already be here.

Got another 8 point this morning. Looks smaller than the one last night. Looks like a 3 yo. Forkhorn right behind him.

I finally got out last night, the weather was about perfect, and the squirrels must have agreed, they were keeping me on my toes. But unfortunately the deer must have decided to relax and lay around until after dark.

I still haven’t had anything on camera worth getting excited about anyhow. I will probably give it a few more days before going out again.

Slow morning again. Weather is going to be warm and windy for the next few days so thought I should give it a go. A decent buck about 8am shot across below my stand from the timber on the left to the timber on the right. Not sure why he was in a hurry or what spooked him. Had a spike buck come out into the foodplot area out of the timber about 30 minutes later. That was it no more deer.
