I don’t understand fed independence. How is someone independent when they are appointed by a member of a party? I doubt Biden is nominating a fiscal conservative so obviously that person is guided by a mindset which impacts their decisions. The whole idea that someone can be appointed to a government position without a bias is ludicrous. And to hear Powell and some of the talking heads on cnbc act like there is the great attack on independence is stupid and a cover for another meaning. They act like what has transpired recently has shaken the very ability of the fed to act in the best interest of the people. Horseshit. The fed has been atrocious. Transitory inflation, paying commercial banks to horde money with them that in turn won’t get lent out, running a huge deficit every year ($19 billion in 2025) and cutting rates with rising inflation to try to get Kamala elected (included a wildly unexpected 50 bps cut 2 months before the election) to refusing to cut rates now despite arguably better conditions (pre Hormuz game of chicken).
So this brings me back to Powell and what I was hearing on cnbc today. He, and the panel for the most part, act like the allegations against Powell and Lisa cook are egregiously undermining the fed. Wtf…cook literally committed mortgage fraud. At best she’s a moron and shouldn’t be able to make decisions that impact the economy and worst she deceived a financial institution for her gain. Powell…oversaw a $2.5 billion RENOVATION. I bet my neighborhood of approximately 300 houses and the development of the raw land cost less than $300 million to build everything. 300 nice houses, the development of 400 acres cost 12% of a renovation. So Powell is going against all norms and staying on to stonewall trump until he gets his and cooks fraud and abuse charges dropped. But heaven forbid we challenge the feds “independence/immunity”.
