Who is "popeyoung9" on QDMA?

I say this every once in awhile, hunt for yourself and yourself only so shoot whatever makes you happy and only worry about that. Unless you one of the very few being paid to hunt or have a huge farm then I always wonder what the motivation is to have such a strict rule 5.5 or older rule, is it just for the challenge or does it have more to do with the antler porn insanity and inflating your ego. I also tend to believe some use that rule as an excuse for their lack of woodsmanship or because they hunt ground that cannot consistently produce one but they do not want to feel lesser in the eyes who have awesome ground or someone on tv when they do not not fill a tag, again ego driven.

It's easy to say, "Well you shot deer I passed on..." again to validate to themselves having equal or greater skill than you.

Gospel right there. Honestly the hard core QDM'ers are ruining the fundamentals of hunting. As I posted in that thread, I don’t have rules and don’t have the great land and probably not the skills anyway to say I will only shoot 4.5’s +. I would probably never shoot another buck the rest of my life with that rule. If I feel like shooting a deer at the time it is standing in front of me I shoot. Real simple.

Nope, and you will be as surprised as I was.

:oops:I stand corrected tooln, you guessed it, but I read another post that I thought was very strange in another thread. I was a bit confused. Maybe someone pi$$ed in NoFo's Tequila Sunrise??? Not that I would be sticking up for McDoof, but it was the other post that was a surprise.

Glad I have never had any crazy ramblings on a thread after a couple of beers ... :D

If i waited for a 5+ year old deer I would not have shot a buck in 15 years - more than likely. if they can realistically do that - that is great. I actually had a discussion with Steve B about taking my property to "the next level" in targeting 5 year old deer and the conclusion was that it just wasn't practical. Steve didn't say it was impossible, but impractical - actually Steve never said it he just brought to light many of the things needed to do to get to that point - I decided it wasn't practical. My harvesting of 3 and 4 year old bucks on a fairly regular basis seems to be "par for the course" so to speak and I'm OK with that. I am glad I talked with Steve about it however - passing nice 4 year old deer never to see them again would be really frustrating. For those that can - great, it just isn't for everybody.

I find it interesting November hasn't posted/admitted to it yet - maybe he is trying to not stir things up - and I appreciate that.

Oh I can see it now. 1/4 bottle of Jack and a keyboard.

Either way NOFO hit the nail on the head. Some people just have to big of attitudes.

J-Bird,

Glad it helped. I try not to come out and tell someone they can't accomplish their goals. After all, I'm not "supposed" to be able to do what I do for a living, and I had more than a couple people tell me that. If I'd listened to them, I'd still be working a real job. People's goals are what they are and I or anyone else doesn't have a right to tell them differently. So, I lay out what I believe one would have to do and the price I see of them doing that. Truth be told, I think on your ground, having a 3.5 or two to hunt should be a realistic expectation and a 4.5 should be there as many years as not (even if it is just passing through). 5.5s would be a dang tough mark to somewhat consistently hit, though, even after doing all the things we talked about. I just had a similar conversation with 2 separate photo eval clients over the past month or so. They both had consistently killing 5.5s as their goals. The one, I broke my unofficial rule and flat out told them that. on their 120, with 6-8 people hunting it, in the area it is in, that just isn't practical, but they should have a couple 3.5s to hunt each year, after they were done implementing the plan and assuming they followed the hunting guidelines I laid out for them. The other had more land, only 2 hunters and are in a much better area. I took my normal approach (same I did with you) and just led them to the conclusion that maybe 4.5s should be their goal.

My wife is gone on a girls weekend starting tonight so I'll apologize in advance for anything I post after 10pm tonight.
I would say the same but I will be hitting the whiskey tonight after plowing for what seems like 2 months straight. Problem is I will be passed out by 9.

See this just shows all the sober posting I do isn't worth anything. The drunk posting is what everyone is interested in. :D

Fyi, by choice thats my last qdm post and done with membership as well. Acct still active and cant figure out how to close it. Read enough whitetail reports and how they treated the mn. Debacle. Life is full of choices.
Your last post and you didn't even get banned? Seems like you left some money on the table ;):D

I have had a few responses to the person Nofo replied to that I ended up deleting before posting. Seemed easier that way. Some still ended up getting posted to stir the pot a bit, but that was probably a few months or more ago.

Must be that NOFO booked a outfitted hunt with Duffy instead so that he could see all those 5+ year old bucks in person.

My first thought was that you were trying to get banned.

Think we should talk to John about having one Saturday night a year dedicated to a "Drink & Post Social" .... no holds barred ...

At 6 am the next morning he could delete the thread and then there would be an "I am an idiot and I apologize" thread ...

We would need one sober person to monitor and take screen shots when truth or dare starts.

I'd monitor, but don't want anything to do with screenshots of truth or dare with this crowd!

Steve B - you have been a world of help to me and lots f others here I'm sure. Like I have said in other posts - "Practical advice" that is what I think makes you special Steve. I wasn't trying to call out your advice - I was simply trying to point out that "different strokes for different folks". I'll take my swings at 4 year olds every year and some day I'll get an older one to saunter past - I just got to be able to make the shot when that happens and not pee my pants!

There is a line between QDM and TDM and some folks have the ability to make that transition - I don't. Hunters and property owners all have limitations - some more than others - how we deal with those limitations is what makes us habitat managers. If you can hold out for 5 year old deer or older - go for it. It just isn't practical for me - I practice QDM NOT TQM - so shoot me!

11:12 PM & it looks like BJE80 passed out.
