That looks like it. Yes it gets tall.
I mowed strips through it and the deer tore it up.

Thats coffee weed aka sesbania not vetch. Hate to disappoint but worthless and invasiveIs the deer vetch supposta get this tall? Maybe it needs mowed. I'm not even sure if it's the right stuff but its about 6 foot tall. There are some deer eating it but they're notView attachment 66683 not mowing it down.
That’s why you do it in mix it with Alyce clover. It will do well in drier soils.............. but what about basketball and baseball?????? Hail State!!!!
In all seriousness, idk how I missed this thread. Trying alyce clover and joint vetch for the first time this year. Hoping they'll do good in my sandy soil. After reading yall's posts of joint vetch liking wetter soils, I have my doubts of it thriving through the drought months we have.
That sucks, I've bought it from two different sources online. I'm not possitive but I think I remember Hancock supply or something like that. The deer never seemed too interesed in it. I do appreciate the info. Is there a supplier you can recommend.Thats coffee weed aka sesbania not vetch. Hate to disappoint but worthless and invasive

Ha. Just looked it up. November 3rd. Thing is after first frost might have a week of 75 degree temps.First frost in late October? When did you move to Southern MN?
Yes, I will plant in Alabama (my family’s land) but not on the land I am managing in NH. Just seems too far north in NH but am excited to try in AL!I think you will struggle with it that far north. You def won’t get it to reseed, but you have to get it in the ground as soon as threat of frost is past.
An update to my previous posts- Last season to my surprise a few vetch plants showed up after we disced a small patch and sewed in WR for the fall- couldn't miss it with those purple flowers and fern-like leaves. I monitored the plants and did not see any evidence of browsing- despite trail cam pics showing large number of deer every evening. We last tried Aeschynomene vetch in 2020, so some original seed must have germinated after laying dormant.
Agreed. That sounds like hairy vetch. Not a major draw for deer, but great for soil.Is it possible you saw naturalized hairy vetch?
I thought joint vetch had yellow flowers.
