Trying a couple of aeschynomene/Alyce clover plots.

That looks like it. Yes it gets tall.

I mowed strips through it and the deer tore it up.

Lotta great stuff comes outta MSU about trees, habitat....and bees!!!

.......just not football

............. but what about basketball and baseball?????? Hail State!!!! 😂

In all seriousness, idk how I missed this thread. Trying alyce clover and joint vetch for the first time this year. Hoping they'll do good in my sandy soil. After reading yall's posts of joint vetch liking wetter soils, I have my doubts of it thriving through the drought months we have.

Is the deer vetch supposta get this tall? Maybe it needs mowed. I'm not even sure if it's the right stuff but its about 6 foot tall. There are some deer eating it but they're notView attachment 66683 not mowing it down.
Thats coffee weed aka sesbania not vetch. Hate to disappoint but worthless and invasive

That’s why you do it in mix it with Alyce clover. It will do well in drier soils.

That sucks, I've bought it from two different sources online. I'm not possitive but I think I remember Hancock supply or something like that. The deer never seemed too interesed in it. I do appreciate the info. Is there a supplier you can recommend.

Planted this years crop with my drill on the 13th.

2 weeks before I sprayed with per acre

2 quarts gly
4oz imazathepyr
1 pint pendimethalin.

I planted per acre

20 soybeans
5 cowpeas (had a 50lb bag left over)
3 milo
3 sunflowers
3 sun hemp
5 Alyce clover
5 Aeschynomene

Only difference this year compared to last 2 is adding the soybeans. We will see if it does anything. I planted 7 acres total.

Pics from my farm today. My plots had either gotten so tall and thick, or a little weedy so I mowed them to clean them up. The Alyce clover and Aeschynomene is thick underneath so should provide alot of food until first frost in late October.

Talk stuff is either sorghum Sudan (all volunteer) or teosinte.

First frost in late October? When did you move to Southern MN?

Ha. Just looked it up. November 3rd. Thing is after first frost might have a week of 75 degree temps.

Alyce Clover has impressed me. It took some time to put on growth, but in the last month or so it has shot up. Deer Vetch has not grown as good and I'm sure it is because of my sandy soil and the deep south heat.

Aeschynomene loves the heat. But also likes bottom land soil.

Really need to plant about 10lbs/acre of the deer vetch and 5/acre of the Alyce.

They like the Alyce but love the Aeschynomene.
