Live from the stand thread

Lake effect machine shut off a couple of hours ago so I'm sitting with Mrs in her backyard hunting shack after work. Watching flying squirrels run around more than looking for deer. There must be a dozen or so in here with us.

Unbelievably cool! One things for certain, you got a tough wife! Mime would have been out of there so fast it'd make your head spin!

Good opening morning for rifle in Kansas. 17 doe, 5 bucks, one bobcat and a coyote.

Must be a doe in heat somewhere. 19 does in the field when I left and only a spike buck to tend them. He was having the time of his life!

and you didn't shoot the coyote.....Shame 🤣

Sitting Illinois 2nd firearm season. It's 🥶

Just had an opportunity, but didn't shoot. Buck was crossing my trail at about 100 yards. I did meh as loud as I could multiple times.he turns broadside but I can't get a good judgement of his antlers. He starts to walk away and MeH him again he stops and then starts walking towards me a few steps and stops just looking. He was full frontal I was shaking like crazy when I was on him due to cold . I was going to shoot he Never ended up giving me a broad shot again. He wasn't outside the ears.id say to the end of the ears, he was a good deer. That was fun.

Day two, and it's 13 degrees with a high of 30 got to the stand about an hour late almost convinced my self to stay in. Foot warmers on the back by your kidneys does wonder.

I used to take those body warmers, and tape to the small of my back in between layers.

I just don’t know how yall do it.

Was 24 when I got to stand today and I almost died. My hands were so cold I thought I was going to lose them. I truly don’t know how yall handle the cold up there.

Single hand warmer in each jacket pocket is warmer than gloves on a stand and hands are ready to go when a deer shows up.

I have something similar to this. Usually just this is enough but if my feet are still cold I just slip a handwarmer down in along my boot and it warms them right up. Other than that just handwarmers in the pockets. I still have the Cabelas insulated bib overalls from when I was about 13. They're so warm. My other suggestion is wind stopper clothing. Nothing saps the warmth out of you like a cold wind. I'm going to ask for a pair of pants for christmas. I have a jacket and beanie already.

Keep them coming. That’s good stuff. I’m not playing. My hands almost fell off. Ha
It probably isn't what you want to hear, but eventually you get used to the cold. The first frigid sit of the year is always the hardest, but they do get better as the year goes on. I know it has been a cold hunt when I walk back to the truck after the hunt and I can't straighten out my fingers to get the keys out of my pocket.

Iceman boots are great for frigid temps as are fleece neck warmers, long underwear style base layers and pockets filled with fun sized Snicker bars. You don't notice the cold as much when you are crunching into a frozen Snickers praying that you don't snap a tooth. For gloves I prefer a style of fingerless gloves that have a mitten top around them. I bought them from cabela's and they are great. You can put a handwarmer inside the mitten section and when a deer comes by you simply move the mitten section back and you have bare fingers to pull the trigger.

I have yet to venture into the battery heated clothing. My dad gave me a pair of heated insoles for my boots which I thought were going to be nice but they didn't work so I couldn't tell you how much it helped. I bought a heated seat cushion too but didn't realize it didn't come with a battery back and haven't ordered one. I bought my dad a heated vest the other year that I think he likes.

Heater body suit, the cold is not an issue. You don't need any battery gizmos or toxic waste hand warmers.
