Live from the stand thread

Several does at various places. One young buck at 10 yards.

Had a doe and fawn get close this morning.
One of the many reasons I love hunting mornings is the rising thermals and being able to get away with a bit more.

You hunting from a harness?

Smoker is going to get fired up this week. Midday turkey stalk was successful. Shifted over to another parcel in the area for the evening hunt.

One of my kitty kats had a successful hunt:

I shoot them all the time while deer hunting. but you do have to get down and move them off the field. I left one once and the deer did not like it....

I call that the turkey shuffle. I agree I always run down and put them in the bushes or the blind with me.

Beautiful morning Saturday. A little chilly and damp. Saw a total of about 8 ducks, a squirrel and a cardinal. One of my favorite stands though. Nice pinch point along the creek. I just remembered that I wanted to fix this stand yesterday. It leans forward and was absolutely miserable to sit in.

First sit in a stand on the new farm, a nice 10 min walk from the back door. First hunt I have made time for in over 3 years, life gets in the way sometimes. Even last night I almost talked myself out of it as the list of things to do is still long for the fall, but I told my wife I guess I am not getting any younger. Hoping to get a few more hunts in before work ramps up into high gear again. The front had pushed through the night before and the wind was still blowing a bit more than I would have liked last night but the temperature was cool yesterday and I knew it was going to dip below freezing last night. Figured the deer might be up and moving because of that. Quiet until about 15 minutes after sundown, then a couple of small bucks walked down the tree line you see within 25 yards of my stand. Nice to see deer again from a stand.

Of course I pulled the card out of the camera across from my stand as I left last night. Only to realize that if I had hunted on the 13th I would have had 4 bucks in front of me at one time. With one of those being a potential deer on my hit list this year. Oh well now I have a good reason to keep hunting the rut is just around the corner, things will be amping up shortly.

Just did something on the home farm I've probably never done. Snuck a half mile through the corn to my spot. Intel said it was the place to be. Got 40 yards from the base of the tree and didn't like the wind situion. Could feel it back drafting into the line of travel. Not the direction I anticipate the buck to come from. But right to were any passing does might end up. Bailed out and decided to play it safe and hunt the east side. Will see if it pays off. Just didn't feel like risking blowing up the whole N side. Might turn into and observation sit cause I'm aways from the core. But there's always a chance I guess. Hope something gets up and feels like going for a cruise.

Last night I had a 6 and a big body 8 walk from right to left, 40 yards out. If they'd been at 30 I'd have taken the 8. Still hoping to see the double crab 12 again. PXL_20221022_222333667.jpg

Interesting sit tonight. Saw my #2 buck on the hitlist, he was pushing 40 yards and never got any closer. Had a hard time telling it was him for quite sometime back in the trees. After that I had an experience with a bobcat and a doe that was cool, though I am sure it cut down drastically on the other deer I saw after. I could hear this doe blowing about every 10 seconds back in the timber. She was up wind from me and I knew she hadnt seen me. The squirrels and birds went beserk a couple of times so I figured it was a 4 legged threat. About 10 minutes later I can see her coming through the timber towards me. Once she got to the tree line I could see the bobcat about 5 steps ahead of her. That damn doe was following the bobcat and blowing on a regular basis, the bobcat could have cared less! The bobcat never ran just kept walking along. Sorry for the crappy picture I had to screen shot my video.

Up until yesterday morning, I haven’t seen a deer worth hunting, so I haven’t even been in stand, or gotten excited about going out. I now have a decent 10 point that wandered my land Sunday night, yesterday morning, and mid day yesterday. I am hoping to get out this weekend, and see him live.
