Live from the stand thread

Had crosshairs on this one and decided he might make it and grow another year. Hard to judge age when so much weight has been lost. Insane movement again today. Two young ones fighting 30 yards from where son killed his buck.

Nothing warms my soul like sitting on top of a hill watching the sun rise.

I’ve seen this 9 point a bunch of times while hunting behind my house this week, always just out of range and usually behind does.

Just shot one with a shotgun… he hunched up moved slowly like twenty yards. I was aiming for lungs. His tail was down and it was flickering. Dead deer? The last spot I heard him was only 35 yards away. Somewhat afraid to push him if its guts.

If in doubt sit tight for an hour then cautiously look at the blood before going on.

Dead deer, but not a lung shot. I'd wait.

It's a war zone around me but only seen a doe a spike and 3ptr on my land

I would wait a couple hours before moving. By then it will either be dead, or gone.

Today is the last day of archery. I'm taking advantage of the snow to see how the view is out this new elevated box blind I built this summer for rifle/muzzleloader seasonsIMG_20211119_142254959_HDR~2.jpgIMG_20211119_143613887_HDR~2.jpgIMG_20211119_143557006_HDR~2.jpg

He didn’t go very far. Iam guessing kidneys and some lungs as it appears to have blown some out through his nose.

Thanks every this was my first time killing with a shotgun. deer was slightly quartering away. The Hornady sst caused massive devastation. It was like a mini bomb went off in its body. Is lack of blood normal for firearm kills? I found out today that deer don’t chew acorns but eat them hole.

In my experience esp with 20ga slugs yes they don’t seem to expand very well, deer seem to die quickly but blood trailing can be a challenge

Idk, when I use a 30-06, there is usually a large pile of blood. Inlet the size of a pencil, outlet the size of a beer can.

Right?
The boy and i had 1 at first light but couldn't tell what it was. Nothing but pheasants since. Maybe 6 shots I've heard

No shots yet on day 2 of IL. I think enough damage was done yesterday.
