Live from the stand thread

I was out this evening rocking in the red pines. Glad I went though as I was able to check cameras and my target buck is back in the area. Looks like he was there last night so hopefully with a little snow in the morning he will be back.

Winter arrived in N. MN. Good luck in this nice cold weather over the weekend folks. I'm wishin they hadn't mowed all the brassicas down already! Hopefully they're diggin for bulbs this weekend. Most activity I've seen over food this season was last night, like they were trying to get it all before it was covered up.

Not a great start. Windy, then half way to stand realize my seat had fallen off my backpack. Of course it's at the truck. Get to stand enter at wrong spot and run into tree. Finely get into stand and my light gals off my head. I'll ride this out until 930 10 tops before I head on for a nap, hopes are no longer high for this morning

We got robbed on the snow, just a light dusting was about it. But cooler temps should get them out. I haven’t had pictures of a decent buck for a week, not sure if they are locked down, if I spooked them off the land, or if they moved on to greener pastures. But now that the temps are cooler, I will take a big doe to put some meat in the freezer as well.

GREAT buck Booner! Congrats buddy!!!!

Same 6ptr I've seen showed up about 930 headed south on a mission. Came through so fast couldn't have shot him if I wanted to. Dad saw a doe about 815 no care in the world just out of range. We both moved to ground blinds to get out of the wind he in the North myself to the south. Lucky for us a bird decided to make a nest at the top of our chimney at the cabin so when we let the fire for lunch the whole place filled with smoke so I don't smell like people, I do smell like people on fire it's just been one of those days. who knows maybe a monster will show up at dark. The duck hunters to the west are slaying them though.

Watching the edge of a grapevine thicket this evening and while I was trying to post this. I had a spike come cruising by looking for love. Hard to hold the bow and take a picture one handedIMG_20211112_164855381~2.jpgIMG_20211112_165841744~2.jpg

Two does one at 40 other at 65. No boyfriend in sight. Maybe they aren't hot yet I guess. I really wanted to meet their boyfriend

I went out for a couple hours mid day yesterday, I wanted to hit a certain stand on the edge of my sanctuary, one that I hunt maybe 1 time a year, the stand strap didn’t look safe, so I just found a pile of brush, and tucked myself behind that, I didn’t even have an arrow in yet and I saw a doe, with a spike buck following her. I got an arrow in, and a nice buck came in at 25 yards and I let an arrow fly, and he dodged it. But that is 0 fer 2 this year on decent bucks. Time to practice a little and make sure it isn’t the bow. I have a messed up shoulder, so I am not sure if I am holding the bow different or not, so time to test it. Next year I will have a crossbow.

So, how do you hunt this wind? Or do you stay home ? Hunt the wind for the prime time?
