Live from the stand thread

In a ladder stand tonight..... area has several scrapes. Got out late and bumped 3 does on the way in. Sitting just inside the inside corner of a field.8CA812D2-7E64-45D9-978C-1C1E29688915.jpeg8F4506F7-EE2E-4137-9EF9-2BC52CE18EC1.jpeg

Nothing while on stand. Dumped one on the way out .... out in the corn field

Hang your head in shame...

So I let one of the big mature 9 pointers on my place go 3 times this morning at 200 yards, he was limping hard. (Same buck my brother let walk 3 weeks ago.) The 4th time he was dogging a doe at 90 yards and sporting an obviously broken leg and I decided to shoot him, I doubt he would have grown better antlers with that break if he made it.

I could not get him to stop. Even screamed at him. So Like a newbie I threw three his way and he hit the thick brush following his girl. He never acknowledged the shots. 5 minutes later he was back with his girl but didn’t leave.

149 3/8” 210 lbs on the hoof.

I’ll get some pics tomorrow.

Congrats! Not always easy.

In the battle wagon this am with my boy. Odd wind from the east and a little above freezing. Still looking for mr big.

Had a yote come across the corn field but not sticking around so no shot, but that was it. To the house for lunch and a look at this evenings hunt. So no deer sighted - much more normal for us.

Nice work Bill, good looking buck! We all have our newbie moments :emoji_wink:

It was a brisk 19 deg F this morning and lots of activity early. Saw 12 doe and 2 bucks. No shooters but probably one of the more active opening days in a while with lots of shooting around and only 2 shoots 15-20 minutes before opening.

Live from the truck.
Tis' rifle season.
Where I take a break and try to revive deer camp.

Got the wife in one of my favorite bowstands, her first ever sit in a stand. Trying to convince her to pick up the bow.

Got Dad overlooking the grounds in his favorite spot in the tower blind.

Life is good

Bill, that's a crazy story, and it ends with a bruiser of a buck on the ground! Congrats on getting him, even after he was "caught and released." So what's the story on the azz-kicker buck?? Is he just a bigger deer, or a better street fighter? Hard to believe powerful looking deer like yours got whomped on so badly.

Not 100% sure. I got 5 pics in that sequence and never got a good look at the bully’s antlers. The one I shot was hanging with a bigger nine this summer. They were buds then. It might have been him but I haven’t seen a hair of him since about the second of October.

When I zoom in this looks broken during the fight.

And I can see the gouge here. Maybe his buddy just plowed him like a bull and broke it.

If my "buddy" plowed me with his horns.

Think I would start looking for new friends, ha
