Live from the stand thread

Congrats!

Had a doe with fawn walk right under my stand with 45 min to go. Let them go. Nothing followed. Saw a bunch of does come from the direction the buck went. He wasnt with them.

Now do I hunt the same stand in the AM or sleep in. I havent hunted that stand in the morning since september.

Congrats Barndog!

A couple from tonight's hunt. I'm pretty sure the second one doesn't "need" a doe.

Going to attempt to start diesel trucks sitting in the field without being plugged in. Got a big cat and a little cat. Mid 20s is about the cutoff. The machines can go lower than that. Calling for rain tomorrow, so I may have 1 last chance to bow hunt before gun season next weekend. Good luck today guys.

Slow so far. Havent seen a deer. Need to thin out some crows. Have also heard some turkeys gobbling

I went out this morning and someone was parked right in the spot where I walk into the woods, so I went back home as I didn't have a backup spot. Went back at 2:00 and he was gone. There was blood and drag marks on the trail, so he got something. As I walk in a 6 pt buck runs away from my stand area.

About 3:30 a buck is meandering his way through the woods, eating acorns. I can tell he's young, and I change my mind about 20 times as to whether I would shoot him or not. He gets 10 ft from my stand and sees me, standing there staring for at least 5 minutes. He jumps off about 10 yards and then starts walking to the left.

Finally made a final decision and took the shot. Didn't make it out of sight before crashing. At this point in the season I get pretty tired of carrying a stand in and out of the woods every time I hunt, and am ready for my archery season to end. He was just the 3rd buck I've seen all season, and first to give me a shot. Only the 2nd archery buck I've taken in the 10 years I've been hunting.

My best archery season yet with 2 does and this buck. Some seasons I haven't had a single shot. Now I'll be resting up for a week to get ready for rifle season.

Congrats. IMO any deer on public land, let alone a legal buck, is a hard earned trophy.

0730 had a doe 300 yds away by the road. About 8 had a little 6 point go right under the stand. That openes the floodgates as I saw several deer but nothing close. Climbed down about 9. On the way out saw a buck on his feet on the refuge to the south.

Chuck said they spotted him in the stand pretty quick too.
We have a 4 acre pond not very far from his stand so I'm sure they're well fed on my fish.

When I see otters on my place, it's always a favorite day for me. I have a beaver pond and some wide creeks they inhabit. I stocked 200 catfish earlier this year hoping to feed the otters.

I may have to start a new thread. I never credited shingle oaks with much because they grow so slow..

This stand is in huge one. Like the size the pioneers would have cut to actually make shingles. Stand has been here for years and I don’t recall ever hunting it in November when it dropped acorns. It’s been raining them the last few days. Maybe they only produce every few years?? Every time I’m in it the deer are like vacuum cleaners. So they obviously like these little acorns.

Aint a stand but lets see what happens
