I went out this morning and someone was parked right in the spot where I walk into the woods, so I went back home as I didn't have a backup spot. Went back at 2:00 and he was gone. There was blood and drag marks on the trail, so he got something. As I walk in a 6 pt buck runs away from my stand area.
About 3:30 a buck is meandering his way through the woods, eating acorns. I can tell he's young, and I change my mind about 20 times as to whether I would shoot him or not. He gets 10 ft from my stand and sees me, standing there staring for at least 5 minutes. He jumps off about 10 yards and then starts walking to the left.
Finally made a final decision and took the shot. Didn't make it out of sight before crashing. At this point in the season I get pretty tired of carrying a stand in and out of the woods every time I hunt, and am ready for my archery season to end. He was just the 3rd buck I've seen all season, and first to give me a shot. Only the 2nd archery buck I've taken in the 10 years I've been hunting.
My best archery season yet with 2 does and this buck. Some seasons I haven't had a single shot. Now I'll be resting up for a week to get ready for rifle season.
