Hawggardville

So that's what a good thick weed free been field is supposed to look like :).

Maybe next year with Liberty mine will look like that.

We're by the fire listening to the hog basketball team. Football has been tough to watch this year.
I've got beans soaking and polks cajun sausage for tomorrow!
Saw lots of does today, ready for the morning.

Trying to get a jump on the fruit tree planting by digging our holes, getting the stakes placed and cages ready. My helper seemed more interested in hitting me in the knee with the toy pistol he'd brought along to shoot deer with.

Enjoy the heck out of that! My youngest sons taller than me. My grandson went from from a cabbage patch doll to a kid that can read in like 2 days!

Helpers are great Merle !! My oldest son actually packed the dirt in around a batch of Norway spruce seedlings when he was 6 yrs. old - and did a good job of it. Those trees are now 20 to 25 ft. tall. It's never too early to get 'em outdoors and let them burn off some energy.

Getting prep work done makes spring planting season go much easier. Good plan, Merle.

Looking good merle! Wish I could get my little nephews excited for the woods, I keep losing to the ipad.

Loose the iPad charger every once in a while :emoji_wink:. Grandmom is always loosing the darn thing around our house.

At least this one is a bit young for that, well very much. I'm hoping we get him hooked on the outdoors early.

Hope you all have enjoyed your Christmas day so far. I had my youngest son and his bunch over today. Since we get the traditional Christmas meal at several other places I always make breakfast, bacon, sausage, biscuits, eggs, and my world famous chocolate gravy.
After watching a host of grandkids play we found time for a rabbit hunt with the beagles. Shot 4 then we just enjoyed watching the girls run for awhile.
Amelia did try and claim one for her Christmas dinner though.

A few of our grafts from this year, pears, one persimmon and a host of young gold rush apples.

Congratulations to the graduate!

Hit the pond with Chuck for the first time this year. He's been working, at school or in clinicals for what seems like 3 years.
Guess who graduates Saturday though!

Congrats to the grad!

Awesome! Congrats to the grad!!!!!

Merle - If you haven't tried any Goldrush apples yet ......... wait 'til you get a taste of those. Firm, crisp, sweet/tart/cider-y. I know taste is subjective - but WOW !! If I have the choice between a Honeycrisp and a Goldrush - I'll take the Goldrush EVERY time. You'll have to let us know what you think of them.

Your trees look good. Nice work.

^^^^^ A local orchard & it's farm market sold every last Goldrush apple this past November / December. Even the " seconds ". They told me the Goldrush sold as quick as they picked them. The reputation is building for Goldrush. I think you'll be happy, Merle.

Who needs to go to a pond when we can just walk around Chucks front yard?

I did take my new helper to the farm this week. Had the city girl spraying beans and doing a little bush hogging in no time. Nothing quite like working the next generation lol!
We did stop for ice cream on the way home however.

Will there be a follow up post in the “what’s for dinner” thread.
