Beginnings of a southern land tour...

I think I finally got some poults on camera but they are bigger than I would have expected. Thoughts?

Yep, poults. Same size as a nice group I saw this morning. Great to see!

It is great to see! I have been getting tons of pics of hens with no poults and I was scared we had a bad hatch due to the tremendous rainfall we have had for the past month or more. I don't know where these have been hiding!

I’ve been waiting for a good rain to get my millet up. Hopefully this will do it.

Finally getting a pattern on this guy. I’m setting up on him soon. He has to go.

He looks very large to me. Is he above average size?

He’s definitely a mature boar. I estimate 250-300 lbs. Here’s a pic of a young buck for perspective that is probably 120lbs or so.

Went and checked the millet fields this weekend and two look very good with waist high, headed out millet. It’s honestly a little thicker than I expected. I may have to burn it to get some bare ground for the doves. The other field is headed out but the millet is only shin high. It’s a much pourer soil that I will have to work on. I forgot to get pics. I’ll get some next trip.

Spent several hours hack and squirting chinaberry trees, which quickly pop up in any old fields. Trying to eliminate all the mother trees first. I’m curious how many are sitting in the seed bed from over the years.

Privet will be my fall and winter project that will really take years to get under control.

I’m going to try several test plots of single varieties to see what grows well and what I like. All will be planted within a cereal grain nurse crop.

Nice variety! I sometimes do the same thing with test plots. Good luck!

Not sure how I have missed this thread, but glad I found it. Wish you the best with your new place!
