Beyond excited for what's happening here! Switch grass is finally taking off, you can see where I've feathered the edges and let forbes regenerate. It's definitely dirty in certain areas with ragweed over my head but I think that structure is crucial right now. Seeing this compared to the flat plains of last summer is crazy. I've got atleast a dozen deer bedding on the property right now. Unfortunately, I probably won't be sharing anymore buck pictures as I've been informed that this site could be used by people specifically looking for big deer in certain areas.

Here's a little ways off the habitat part but It's part of the family farm we're bringing back. I tore down the old chicken coop and built a much smaller 8x20 shed style coop and used the remaining foundation and slab as a run. We raised 14 chicks from mid April and now have at least 3 of them laying. Also got a good garden going and more veggies then we can keep up with, canning and freezing everything we can't eat. Also planted sweet corn for the first time ever and picked my first 3 dozen or so last night, from my non GMO weedy sweetcorn patch.

Living the life!!

I’ve been meaning to get a garden in for about 3 years and every spring I get busy and don’t get around to it. Might need to make it a winter project this year so in the spring I just need to bury seeds.

I’d love to raise some chickens and livestock for eggs and meat (always had growing up) but my wife thinks every animal is a pet & I know we’d end up with 0 critters in the freezer and outrageous vet bills for nominal issues with farm animals hahaha. Ironically enough, she’s a cold blooded killer if a whitetail walks out though.

Wondering what type of grass this is and should I be worried and be active in trying to kill it now? It's all new and only shown up in the areas I have sprayed or disked. I tried Dr Google but got a lot of mixed answers. I don't think it's RCG right?

That’s the dreaded Johnson grass. Did you plant something after you sprayed or disked? The Johnson grass saw an opportunity to pop once the disturbance happened and the competition was set back.

Not sure you’d want to do anything this year about it since it’s seeded out.

My app says barnyard grass. Whether you try to kill it right now depends on what your expectations are for the area you're seeing it.

Sorry for the scare. You’re right, Brian. Barnyard grass.

From what I read, it’s an annual and isn’t as aggressive as Johnson grass, so that’s a better answer.

I figured it wasn’t Johnson grass as I’m semi familiar with that. It’s in an area I tilled and planted for a switch border and then planned for establishing a native prairie but the switch failed.

Is there any switch at all? Label says quinclorac will work and be safe for the switch. Worth a look.

I've not seen it, but it was seeded late and everything else crowded and jumped ahead. Maybe I give it a shot and it will show itself. I'm honestly more concerned on whether this barnyard grass is crazy invasive so I can address it now. It does have a nice tall open structure and is about 5' tall. Thanks T.

I was planning on terminating these "wild plots" for a fall planting but my tractor is once again dead in the water and it may not happen. Maybe that's ok... Bottom line is, I'm sold on spring plots. They have totally established a deer population that did not exist last fall.

The pic with the tractor is Vitalize seeds, Nitro Boost. Super happy with what it did, it made some awesome tonnage and quick cover. The other pics are a blend from Whitetail Habitat Solutions that was meant to be planted in fall but was leftover and I threw it on the ground this spring. I've never seen such a thick plot. Look close and you can just make out the top of my SXS on the right. It's hard to even walk through but the deer are liking it. Never grew peas but crazy how huge they are. I pulled one up without taking it out of the ground and it was taller than me! And man are they loaded. Not sure if the deer wait til they get a little harder to eat, but there are tons out here so hopefully this carries them into fall until the corn plot starts feeding them.

Thanks! Starter went out about 3 months ago. I finally got that put back together. Now finally got a brush hog, hooked it up yesterday and the 3 point arms shake violently when I try to raise the implement. I used the 3 point all spring with no issues. Checked the hydraulic fluid, and it's all good. The shaft isn't binding as the mower came off a 4020 so same tractor in essence. My hope and prayer is a plugged filter thats not allowing enough pressure to allow the 3 point to function normal. I had to give it a rest but I'll revisit next week.

Yeah, hydraulic pressure for sure. Hopefully it’s something simple.
