Reconyx Cellular

Or you could just offer suggestions instead of insinuating I don't know what I'm talking about from the get go(anyone questioning reconyx....)just an idea. I don't think there's any question that photo is very poor, it was just surprising to me since its a $600 camera. It does make sense business wise that they're going to get you to pay for the instant access to get instant hd and ultimately pay for more pics with them counting for 10. So are you saying that the wide view is going to be a poorer pic quality because of size etc?

I don’t know this to be true of Reconyx cams but wide angle lens or photo do tend to distort the original image. It maybe be worth trying another setting for that set up to see if it’s more to your liking. You would know the distance to that deer far better than me it looks further but with a wide angle shot objects next to each other will appear further apart. You definitely need some more photos to compare to. Maybe the full shade has an effect also. I could see night photos being an issue in that location with nothing for the flash to bounce off of.

I switched it to default so we'll see how that goes. Thanks!

Isn’t there normal, default and wide? I’ll have to look in the book and see if there is a description to go with each.

Here's a further out deer in SD on Spartan similar distance to the standard def of the Reconyx I posted. More sunlight of course. The Reconyx photos are very good in HD. I guess that's my only complaint is having to request HD on a camera that's twice the price to compare favorable to Spartans SD. I think that's a fair criticism. The Reconyx will last a lot longer so that's also to be considered. 495429363_52090689585752.jpg

In this case you'd be wrong. I love Reconyx and have 17 Hyperfire 2's but this pic quality without requesting HD is not good. My Spartan and Tactacam look better. As I said it's the 1st pic so we shall see. Even the logo/time/date are blurry. View attachment 31449

The standard picture quality on my 6 Reconyx cell is very similar to that on my two Spartan GoCams. I can see more than enough to tell if I need to request a high resolution photo, which is the same with Spartan.
Out of curiosity are you receiving the small or large thumbnails from your Spartans?

Whatever came standard. I requested a lot of HD pictures, but 95% were whatever the default setting was.

Ok default is small I believe which would make a lot of sense as to why they compared well to the reconyx non HD. Reconyx standard pics are 512x288 where the larger non HD spartan thumbnail is 1024x576. Which is why I thought they looked so bad compared to what I'm used to.

If Reconyx will allow you to add to your cell plan at some point that would be a game changer for me. Admittedly my view has been skewed because I can add the Spartans to my cell plan for 4.25/mo for unlimited and then add the premium credits in bulk for $3/mo. So basically I can get unlimited everything for less than $8/mo and I've never had to rely on the small images.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I'm gonna try to utilize the Reconyx and see how it goes data wise etc.

Makes sense. My company pays for my phone so I can’t do that. For me the Reconyx plans work out much cheaper for the volume of cameras I’m running.

Just got some excellent news on this front. Just spoke to Reconyx and in the next 2 weeks or so you will be allowed to add these to your existing Verizon plan as Spartan allows.

The only hiccup initially will be no remote settings change ability and images will not go to the app but to your email until they can develop the software further. So eventually it'll be the same as Spartan, thats a game changer for sure.

Wonder if the same for AT&T??

My guess is no since I don't think you can with Spartan. But I think that's an ATT thing. You might give Reconyx a call and see.

Anyone transition their Reconyx cell cams to scrapes yet? I'm interested to see if mature bucks react to the Reconyx cell cams. Let us know if you are getting multiple pics of the same mature bucks using scrapes.

I have not. That being said, I generally do not place cameras over scrapes so I likely won’t this year either.

Quick update. I have had all 6 cameras out for a while and all are working well I have one camera that has taken and sent well over 3,000 pictures and all cameras are still showing 100% battery life. I am running lithium batteries and set to batch transmit pictures 2x a day. Mid October I’ll change everything back to immediate transmission. I love earthing so far except I still like the Spartan app a little better. I really hope they tweak the app to allow easy access to sharing with my hunting buddy; Spartan was great for that.

Let us know how mature deer react if you put them on food plots. With a Spartan cam they would consistently go by the cam 30 plus yds from it. Sure seemed they were avoiding it. Never had that happen with my standard Reconyx cams. Thanks

Had this guy a few yards from the camera for 5 minutes last night. Not quite “mature” but not exactly a spike. My good deer will show up in about a month. All the deer I have right now are 2.5 year old non shooters; although this guy might be 3.5, not sure...not a deer to shoot regardless.

Nice.....thanks. Keep the info coming. I decided to hold off on ordering the Reconyx cell this year.

I haven't noticed any difference in behavior having a cell cam vs a regular cam in spooking deer.
