Live from the stand thread

Another Saturday with a cool and calm start set to top out in the low 50's with a S-SE wind. A few minutes ago a nice buck walked past at 100 yards. Grunted at him a few times but got no reaction.

Just rattled in the smallest 6 pt I’ve ever seen…walked in to 8 yards..really windy in PA this morning I think it’s making them nervous..

Drove up to my place in Jackson county last night. Short sit this morning since I need to get a few things done. So far one little buck searching around with his nose to the ground and a red fox. Gonna give it till 9 and get to work

I've probably asked a few times over the years. How many rows and what spacing? That looks incredible.
2 rows 3 foot apart with staggered 24” spacing. It has to be 10+ years old now.

You've gotta have some real satisfaction out of that stand of MG. Nice!

How do you keep the power company from cutting it down or spraying it every so often?
It doesn’t grow high enough to interfere with the lines. They did run a section over once to replace that pole and I chewed the Forman a new one.

Actually I’m just sitting in my tree shaking my head in disgust and disbelief…. again.

Im adjacent to a large plot of public land. And every year this group of people,or hunting club does a drive on it. Now doing a deer drive is an old time traditional method of hunting and I’m fine with that. But these guys doing it by yelling a whooping and hollering as the go. My problem,it’s opening F’ing day! Iit’s three hours into the season. You have all season to do a drive. Don’t be so inconsiderate. There’s other people trying to hunt. (I just heard someone yell at them to shut up lol).

What’s more, kind of the irony, they’ve been doing this for years, 10 maybe 15 years? And I have never heard a gunshot,so obviously it isn’t working. Lmao Maybe go screw up with different patch of State land next year? Maybe you’ll actually see something?

Your mg screen is so motivating. I’m doing it next year.

Wow! I sure wish I could get that stuff to fill in that well.
I did weed control the first 3 years then none. Gly before it sprouted with Simazine. I also hit it with nitrogen the second and third year.

Just doe and a basket 6 today. Lots of little guys so far this year nothing wall worthy. I did find 3 brand new scrapes on the way out to the plot this afternoon.

Our camp crews have had better luck doing "silent" drives. Yelling lets the deer know where each guy is, so deer can lay low & still if they know exactly where hunters are. We change directions, bat sticks against trees, throw stones in various directions to confuse deer. Makes 'em nervous in the thick cover we hunt in, not knowing what noises are people / danger. Many times they'll break out, and someone gets a shot.

For guys that only get a day or 2 to hunt (off work), driving deer may be their best / only chance to see deer. It happens here too.

Think she’s about over here. Very little interest from the bucks. Does are comfortable coming out to feed again. Anything can happen with a hot doe but I’m comfortable saying it’s in the downside of the curve around me.
I have doe laying in the middle of a clover plot right now. She wouldn’t have dared to do that last weekend
