Hadnt seen anything and I was contemplating climbing down. Suddenly he came down the deer trail. My pulse went up and knees got week. Ive said I was looking for a deer that gave me that feeling and he did it. Shot was a steep angle, he was about 11 yards maybe a hair closer. I smoked the liver, went through the diaphragm, and out the guts. He went 125 yards.

Congrats!
I hope the dog got a bone :emoji_stuck_out_tongue:
Good ending to a long season....

Last deer hunt of the year. Last sit on soybeans probably forever.

Sadly I think that was her fawn's bed for about 20 min.

Congrats!

Congrats. Good way to end the season.

Mort ... you were certainly braving some frigid temps, nice job!

Live from the ice castle...
Got stuck getting out here.
Got a truck stuck getting us out.
Dang glad spring is around the corner.
At least the beer stays cold.

Looks fun. Going up to the lake in a couple hours. I just hope there's safe ice. Have had very little safe ice in Indiana this year.

I see you're doing your part to defeat the coronavirus, trampled. Looks like a nice day on the ice.

Beautiful morning to kick things off.

Edit: update
Passed a 120ish 4x4 at 25yds right at first light. Although that little shit eventually bested me and found my kayak and bag and blew out.

Was full draw on a couple does. Good first practice run. Found a few things I need to iron out of the setup.

Surprisingly Bill the mosquitos were not an issue. To dang cold, found myself shivering a bit. Wasnt ready for that this early.

I slept in the blind last night. It was cold and full of spruce needles. I saw 4 deer, but didn't get a shot. Going out again tonight to hunt in the moonlight.

Well I'm about to give up for the night. It has been a rollercoaster couple of nights.

Last night I got out of the blind to take a wizz and an owl landed about 15 feet from me on a low branch. The second time I got out to relieve myself a deer barked at me from about 20 yards up the hill in a dark Sitka spruce forest. It gave me quite a start. As it moved off barking, another deer barked about 50 yards away on the opposite side of the blind. Figuring they were satisfied to talk to each other, I crept back into the blind. That second deer showed herself, but it was too early to shoot, so I watched her graze and wander off. The moon came out and lit up the whole area, so I snuck out over to another field and saw three deer, but they were too far off to shoot.

Tonight a hind gave me a great shot, but I'm holding out for a stag this week. The moon is fantastic, and the partial cloud cover is making for good conditions, but the big group of deer that has been feeding here nightly is nowhere to be seen. It has been a magical couple of nights, but good lord is it frustrating. It's 3 a.m. and I'm exhausted. Thinking about calling it a night.
