Live from the stand thread

There's none of the typical grouse as a North American would think of them. We do have "black grouse" and capercaillie, but they are really difficult with a pointer. They like to fly off at the nearest hint of a dog or human. I did have a capercaillie land in a treetop near me when I was moose hunting in Sweden, but I was moose hunting. The bullet I was using would have made it explode. Here on the West coast of Norway, it's a bit too rainy to have a really good population of anything that's not waterproof. We get about 90 inches of rain per year.

Have only had encounters with a bunch of up and comers so far during MO's firearm season. Not a whole lot of mature bucks have been taken yet but they haven't been showing up on camera either. We are hoping they are still getting locked down with does in cover. Most does have been bred so far from what I can tell. Does are picking their fawns back up and all are herding up again. I had 16 does and fawns tonight in a food plot and bucks were hardly paying attention to them.

Opening of Illinois gun. So far two spikes and maybe a three year old. Anyone else have a hard time deciding when looking through a scope.

Had a shooter at first light last Saturday. Couldn’t find him in the scope. It had moisture on the lens that kept freezing up.

Maybe sick from having to retireve that woodcock. I 'm told that many dogs do not like to carry / retrieve woodcock.....not sure why that is.

He didn't retrieve it. I saw it go under a spruce tree and went after it.

I've heard woodcock taste bad, so dogs don't like to retrieve them. I never taught him to retrieve, so he tends not to, but he's an excellent hunter.

I never see forest floors that look like that, the greenery and fluff looks like storybook land, cool looking environment. I would enjoy hiking about

Most of the forest floor here is moss and heather. In the tight spruce stands it's just pillowy moss. Makes it impossible to hear a deer coming. It's like they're walking on carpet.

It's a start. Hope his dad shows up

Had my target buck at 120 yards but I was crossbow hunting. 9 does in field and one of them spooked and ran him off. Ugh. But I did get a little revenge when the does came back in the field.

Rifle starts tomorrow.

He has been all over my property. He is standing in front of my buddy 400ish yds away now

Pretty dead here. See him a doe he was chasing and that's it. Not even hearing shots at all

You have to get yourself some Scope Dope to alleviate that problem.

Gotta head to the north woods. Lots of moss there.

Ghost town after noon. Only heard 4shots all day. Sat on my wheat plot and first time all year I didn't have a doe come in to eat at some point. It was windy as hell lay night 45mph gusts and 25mph today. I'm hoping that had them bedded down. No wind tomorrow so we will see what happens.

My cameras were dead all day, but my dad called and said he was watching 5 bucks cornering one doe on the hillside South of our bottom. 2 of them were real nice.
