Buying a Suppressor in 2026

Can you share the link to the gun build? I’m in the market for something similar

If you're referring to me, I don't really have a link. I used a Noveske lower I had, bought a KAK industries upper in .338 ARC, also their .338 mags. Put a OneLeaf MT1000LRF thermal on it. Shooting Hornady 307 gr. subsonics. Bought a YHM Bad Larry .338 suppressor to finish it off. Very pleased with accuracy, sound, and the thermal. First gun I've done in a long time, I'm generally an archery-only guy.

I was actually referring to 356, but I appreciate your response and I’ll look into those. I know nothing about these AR platforms but I am wanting a dedicated hog gun and I want an AR. I really just want to copy someone else! 😂

Here is the setup:
* The gun is an ATI Alpha-Maxx RIA, 16" barrel. These have polymers lowers which are light weight. The base rifle weights in around 6#. Real world price approx $360 including shipping. ATI has a lifetime warranty and has been in the business 20+ years.
* The thermal is Althlon's new Chronus ATS Pro 25P-250. 17.8 ounces. Retail is $937.49, real world about $700-750 including shipping.
* The suppressor is the Resilient Simple Man 30 cal. 14 ounces with thread adapter for the AR. Real world price, $530 out the door.

My goal was something light weight that used the affordable .223 rounds. This setup weights 8# 4oz.

Nothing wrong with a .223 but if it's a dedicated hog gun, I'd go with something like my .338 ARC, especially if you plan on suppressing it. The 307 gr. subsonic in .338 is quiet and still lots of energy, more than the 300 BLK.

I woul
d tend to agree with that. Even if it's used for other big game at short range, a big, slow, heavy bullet will give better consistent penetration and be a lot more forgiving. You don't need to be as precice with your shot placement when hunting at night. And the subsonic bullets are much quieter than supersonic .223 bullets.

You only need an upper and a BCG. You can use the same lower and charging handle as your 5.56, the all the controls will be identical.

It's a multi-use gun, hogs, coyotes, raccoons & plinking. As noted earlier, one criterion was ammo affordability, and it is hard to top the .223 for affordable centerfire rifle ammo. While I used to reload, I gave up that hobby about five years ago. Around here, 300 BLK typically costs $0.70–$1.30 per round, while .339 ARC is $1.50–$1.70+ per round.

Man I love the 338arc as dedicated hog gun.

Me too! That's the only reason I bought it, shooting hogs at night with the subsonics. And it does the job...

I think it’s the best subsonic cartridge, even better than the 8.6 blackout with Hornady backing with plentiful cheaper ammo.

Cool thing about subsonic is you can get a 10-12.5” barrel. With suppressor you have a nice handy rig.

Has anyone set up a trust to own the suppressor so that family members could be in possession of it? I’m researching what is the most efficient route to take.

Yes. It used to be a piece of cake. Now everyone on the trust has to get fingerprinted. Not sure if I will bother doing it again.

It's still not a big deal.

Yep, I went with a 10.5.

Depends on your trust. If you're a few people in the same household or the same town, probably easy peasy.

Our trust has a lot of people scattered all over, so it's quite a hassle to get everyone fingerprinted in any sort of timely manner, and some of the old curmudgeons don't want to be fingerprinted. We could theoretically get a new trust with fewer people, but then we have a hell of a lot of paperwork to keep track of.

I'll probably just buy the silencers myself and roll the dice on loaning them out.

I ordered 2 suppressors last night and went with a single shot trust on each. Additional members can be added later. I’m going to get the suppressors first and deal with adding my family members later when I can get them all in one spot.

That sounds like a great option. Seems like the price is right, too. I will probably go for that if I can.
