350 Legend

I have a .350 legend that has shot at three deer and killed them all. Furthest ran about 100 yards. Had one quartering away shot that exited opposite front shoulder. Whimchester Whitetail 180 grain. I also have a .450 bushmaster but recoil is a little tough for young ones. Best straight wall I have shot is .400 legend with .215 gr. It can be a true .200 yard gun. Might be a little much recoil for a first gun. My 14 yr old grand daughter shoots it no problem - but she shoots quite a bit
The Bear Creek guys are finally selling a 400 cartridge and they say it's a 400 yard and they are planning on 1 further. Not what I need to hear at all, just saying. I did just order their 160 grain 2500 fps round for a kid, and another box of their 160 grain 350 even though it seems theyre pushing the 140 hv round. They claim their bullets are making better energy and blood trails than lead rounds.

the two deer we have killed with the .400’s fell in their tracks.

likewise.

I killed on last monday with a high shoulder shot. 400 legend, 160 grain copper Bear Creeks. When I got to her, her legs were still curled up underneath her. She never even flinched.

My 11 year old shot one an hour later at 120 yards with the 400 legend (Ruger American Ranch w/ a can). Dropped her where she stood too. He also shot his 8 point with the same gun. He can be pretty recoil sensative, but he didn't have a problem with the gun.

I've changed my entire tune on the 350 since copper bullets. My 8 year old double lunged one and we watched him die on his death run, and I neck shot a doe at 85 yards saturday night. Laid her down where she stood.

The 400 has significantly superior ballistics to the 350, no question, but the 350 is no slouch.

Always wanted a good 40 cal deer rifle. Scooped up a CVA Scout 450 bushmaster this summer though. Added 2 pounds of lead to the stock and it kicks like a baby with 395gr sub-x and 19 grains h4227.

Those legends ever make it to lever gun platforms? How the recoil compared to other guns?

I think the 450 kicks similar to a 20 ga. The 400 is 20 some percent less than that.

I love shooting that gun. I’ll use it in Minnesota if rifle passes in my county ? Which is still up in the air ?

395gr sub-x is about 950ft-lbs of energy subsonic. Hronadys 250gr ftx is 2600ft-lbs.

No suppressor, but anted a quiet cartridge for hunting at home. Mother-in-law gets grumpy. Now it sounds like the guys down the street instead.

Got me inspired to add lead to my 450 marlin browning BLR. Don't want an old friend to sit in the safe because it kicks too much. Probably won't stalk hunt with it anymore with 2lbs of lead in the stock. Either the bushmaster or the marlin. Got a nice light glenfield model 30 for walking the woods.

Oldest kid has been eyeing the legends. If he get a caliber, I usually get one too. Thought 44 mag or 444 marlin were pretty good. Could imagine 400 legend would be pretty good for someone who likes those cartridges.

I’ve got the Savage Axis Legend 400 stainless with a very nice Viper scope on it.
It is a tack driver, have it sighted in 2” high at 100 yards. The recoil is nothing, weight of rifle is nothing I’ve got the synthetic stock. Have shot two deer with it and they dropped where they stood.

I am very comfortable shooting it out to 200 yards or further, don’t know if I would call it a 400 yard rifle. I don’t think I would ever have the need to try that far here, most shots would be under 200 yards.
Only flaw I’ve found with it is like others have said, the magazine can fall out? I just had it happen to me last week and had to overnight a new one to me for $60.
Just went out to look for it today with the warm up and snow melt and found it right away at the bottom of my stand. We had 5” of snow last week.

I thought my 308 win axis is easier to latch in the magazine with the bolt open. I always get 2 magaines and I number them. The 2nd one I bought for my 450 marlin would jamb up heads on the roof the bolt lug pocket area in the barrel.

Never knew axis line came in stainless. Pic of the gun would be nice. Polished or satin barrel?

Magazines aren't legal in IL. Although it's being tossed around. For straight wall rifles.

I guess it could be some other kind of barrel?

The magazine is mostly plastic and I think that is part of the problem.

Can you get a savage stock w/o a magazine hole? Or block the magazine from accept rounds.

Haven't used it a ton, but the CVA scout seems pretty decent.

Oh yeah, several options. Just as long as the rifle has only 1 round and the magazine is back home. Chris blew $40 on a sled for his 400 but now if IL screws around with the laws again it will have been a waste.
