Any body else finding shrooms?

Morels are long past done here, but we have had lots of rain in the last 2 weeks and I have found mushrooms everywhere...

I also found a few chanterelles, but it was only 3 or 4 and I was in the middle of something and couldn’t harvest them.

I've never had a meadow mushroom, I don't know enough about them to be sure if I would be picking the right stuff. We do get puffballs late summer early fall, I tried to like them even cooked them a few different ways...they taste like dirt to me.

I have never seen a meadow mushroom either. But my parents have "spring agaric", which seems like a similar species, and it is one of the best mushroom varieties i have ever tasted.

They are a very easy ID thanks to the pink gills.
They are very similar to button mushrooms, and can be eaten in both the button stage as well as the open stage like above.

When they are in the button stage you MUST cut them open to verify the pink gills. There are a few look-alikes with cream or white colored gills. Although they are not poisonous, if you eat those varieties you will be “evacuating” out of both ends in a hurry. Think Norovirus times 5.
The pink gills are a dead giveaway that it is edible, though.

Been picking a bunch of chanterelles and a few indigo milkcaps over the past 2 weeks...almost missed them...some were well past prime before I realized they were up.

Looked for chants this morning. Nothing.

I need to get more into the chants. I've always wanted to try them, need to start paying better attention and look out for them this time of year.

Winding down as these are the hottest driest weeks of the year but it’s been a real good season for us.
