Picture is from yesterday, though I’m in the same tree now with a similar rifle.
Sat from about 5:15 to 12:30. Saw one trespasser and one running deer probably 200 yards away on someone else’s property. My legs had enough of this stand for one day so I sat in the state land in a spot I’ve had luck in the past for the evening…. till the rain forced me to pack it in. Saw a doe and fawn off in the thick woods.

Went to state land today. Too windy to go to farmland. Also, the brother-in-law's farm is for the employee's this weekend. No deer..... Saw a nice owl, if that's nice not seeing deer. Tons of sign for public land though. 20-30mph winds, so no big expectations there. Took the old glenfield 30 for a walk.

OK, this is a strange one. Domestic cross maybe?
I don’t see a beard in it but the head is red which seems weird this time of year too.

That happens. My grandfather killed one in WV one time that had a few white tail feathers.

My youngest son was interested in the color of that one and kind of did a deep dive into it on google. He found that some that throw that type of feathering have under 10% of heritage domestic turkey genetics?

I think it is a very cool one to see, everything about it says hen to me I just don't get the red head thing..maybe it’s from the domestic gene?
A guy I work with shot a gobbler a few years ago that had a lot of bronze color to it.

Windy today. And I’m up there so it feels even worse.

It started raining about 4:30 this morning, so I was able to get into a the blind silently,

I’m looking forward to another great day at camp whether or not we see or shoot more deer.

“Too windy for farm land”

Maybe it’s where I am and when the season is. I’m always at a loss when people talk about hunting the wind. The wind changes constantly. I don’t mean” it was blowing from the south this morning but from the north in the evening”. I’m sitting in a chair in the woods, one of my stop off/ cool off points. Wind’s blowing in my face from the west. And it will for a few minutes, then blow on the back of my neck from the north east for a few minutes, then switch again. It will do this all day long this time of year. (Also plays havoc with the chimney/stove in the cabin). Gun season is right/wrong time of year when the weather isn’t sure what seaon it is. Kind of why I like the late muzzleloader season. It may be colder, there may be more snow on the ground, but at least the wind has usually made up its mind.

Cursed brush honeysuckle.

Yeah, that’s a swirling wind caused by topographical and/or vegetative factors. I bet if you were to go 100 feet up above the trees it would be blowing consistently a certain direction. That’s why a lot of people try to hunt “high” in terms of the immediate elevation. Hunting low and in bowl amongst a bunch of trees is super hard unless you have a really strong consistent wind
