I have a couple nice looking areas that I've given up trying to hunt since the winds are consistently inconsistent there. I leave those areas for the deer and hunt 100 yards away where the winds swirl less.

I like sitting at grain elevators in line or dumping and watching the chaff (red dog, bees wings) blowing around. The way it swirls and changes directions, or gets caught in a "tunnel" type spot and continually swirls. The best hunting wind has got to be somewhat strong and consistent.

Yeah, that’s a swirling wind caused by topographical and/or vegetative factors. I bet if you were to go 100 feet up above the trees it would be blowing consistently a certain direction. That’s why a lot of people try to hunt “high” in terms of the immediate elevation. Hunting low and in bowl amongst a bunch of trees is super hard unless you have a really strong consistent wind
Iwas pretty near the top of the hill, with an open field about 50 yards behind me.

I didn’t intend to end up in my tree stand but here I am. Walked all around in. It’s like an oasis of green growing vegetation in a desert of brown and white. And the deer don’t seem to care. lol. Tracks all around it, but none in it.

Yote or fox walking one of a million down trees.
