Live from the stand thread

Picture is from yesterday, though I’m in the same tree now with a similar rifle.
Sat from about 5:15 to 12:30. Saw one trespasser and one running deer probably 200 yards away on someone else’s property. My legs had enough of this stand for one day so I sat in the state land in a spot I’ve had luck in the past for the evening…. till the rain forced me to pack it in. Saw a doe and fawn off in the thick woods.

Went to state land today. Too windy to go to farmland. Also, the brother-in-law's farm is for the employee's this weekend. No deer..... Saw a nice owl, if that's nice not seeing deer. Tons of sign for public land though. 20-30mph winds, so no big expectations there. Took the old glenfield 30 for a walk.

That bird picture reminded me: Saturday I had a downy woodpecker, peck my boot!

OK, this is a strange one. Domestic cross maybe?
I don’t see a beard in it but the head is red which seems weird this time of year too.

That happens. My grandfather killed one in WV one time that had a few white tail feathers.

My youngest son was interested in the color of that one and kind of did a deep dive into it on google. He found that some that throw that type of feathering have under 10% of heritage domestic turkey genetics?

I think it is a very cool one to see, everything about it says hen to me I just don't get the red head thing..maybe it’s from the domestic gene?
A guy I work with shot a gobbler a few years ago that had a lot of bronze color to it.
