5 year old buck +
Cool view there. Is that a natural watering hole or did you make that?
Natural waterhole that I made bigger. It always held water but I wanted it bigger than it was.

This was the hardest retrieval I've had...it was a liver shot and the deer was still alive at 6:32 pm when I found him. A second shot allow me to notch the tag. The deer expired just over the property line in a deep creek bed, and I have a good relationship with the neighbor (but not one where he will helpRut Annex Update: Between my meeting that ended at 10:54 and the one that started at 11:00 I arrowed a nice buck. I saw a doe and a fork go through earlier and he was on the same trail. I didn't have time to get video, and I felt the shot was less than perfect. After my 11:00 am meeting I looked at the sight and found white hair and a blood trail that is good, but dark, and no arrow.
This has been an amazing 6 hours, and once I retrieve the buck, it will be a story for many years to come.

That corn didn't grow so well. This was the hardest retrieval I've had...it was a liver shot and the deer was still alive at 6:32 pm when I found him. A second shot allow me to notch the tag. Winches will be required, as this is a solo recovery, so I am getting dinner and planning my approach. Here is a picture of the buck on a camera from yesterday. I harvested him just 10 yards from this camera, about 24 hours after this picture was taken.

Could be a case of Ground shrinkage :-), but I'm happy with the harvest. I'd say he was 3 1/2. At 192#, he was just under the one I harvested two years ago. View attachment 84867

Get one of these driving cushions to sit on. Makes a world of difference.View attachment 84626Day three of torture. The seat in this stand has gotten almost unbearable. The sun just started over the mountain and I’m already thinking of packing it in my legs hurt so bad. Awful design
The most exciting thing I’ve seen so far is a squirrel.

I looked at the pictures and thought the same thing. Both are nice 8 pointers, but definitely different deer.Congrats…but that’s not the same deer in the trail cam pic

Ah I gotcha. Ya I've often thought about cutting the seats off and putting a more comfortable seat in it's place. The driving cushions are stiffer and hold their shape better instead of conforming to the seat shape after awhile like your typical hunting cushion. We called them hot seats. Kind of look like a whoopie cushion filled with foam peanuts. I've never found them to be very comfortable no matter the seat. The last two days I was sitting one THREE hunting cushions. lol
The problem is the design of the seat. Must be made for little skinny people who can sit with their knees together. I'm not little or skinny. I can sit with my legs together for a few seconds. But not at all while wearing heavy winter clothes and a tree harness. In the seat the metal cross bar presses up hard on my lower thighs. In any other position than knees touching each other, the higher metal bars mid seat press up real hard on my hamstrings. After a while that cold metal pressing back there causes my legs to cramp up. Nothing like jumping out of your seat in pain trying to get the cramp to subside... when you only have a couple inches of platform to stand on. Especially when you're trying to me motionless and quiet. lmao (kills me because there's so much about the stand I love, it's 100% rock solid and quite.)
The plan for gun season is to buy some thick foam "kneeling pads." Two on each side to sort of level things out, then one long one across those two. If that doesn't work, I dunno. Maybe get rid of it, screw down some 3/4" marine plywood and stick a regular chair of there.
