Saw a 2 1/2 y.o. chasing a very large doe. Had a nice set up on the doe at 20 yards but the buck moved her. Tried a shot a 34 yards on the doe but missed. Grrrr. I’m doing a lot of second guessing right now. Nevertheless, it’s great to be out and seeing action.

When I retrieved my arrow, there was evidence of a hit…with a meager blood trail. I’m going in for brunch, willl contact my neighbor for permission (as the doe likely went over the property line) and will track this evening.

Update: After waiting eight hours, I tracked the doe to the property line and crossed over with permission . At first I was thinking liver (dark, non-bubbly). The trail became very hard to follow--one drop every 10 yards or so, then ended after 310 yards with a final drop. I am not sure if it was a muscle hit or vital organ, but the blood trail ended at the convergence of three trails. With the landowners son and daugher-in-law hunting off the east trail, so I was not able to go that direction, but the other two didn't produce any more blood. A disappointing outcome to what was an otherwise enjoyable morning sit.
