Knock off pop-tart.
I did finally SEE deer on Saturday. Right before sunset a doe and her fawn started up the hill to the right of my stand. Of course coming up the hill she's looking up the hill and right at me. She knew I was there and never got closer that 50 yards. They backed out into some heavy brush about 70 yards out, then made a big wide circle around me.
And that's the entirety and end of my "bow season", three days. :(
Cameras show deer come there every night I was there, including a very nice (for here) buck. 4AM though don't help me any. lol
I think the only good thing about my stand placement is the evening sun is at my back, which doesn't matter if you're coming up from the side like these two did. Other than that, pretty much everything about the placement sucks. lol But I put it where I did because 1. it was sort of the only tree I trusted. And 2., that's where at the time was the only spot of vegetation. I'd love to put an elevated box blind up in the upper middle of that photo, but there's oh so many reasons that's unlikely to happen.
What you can only sort of see in that picture, but up frame and many more to the left of frame is all the downed trees. Where they fall over and the root base comes with them. They're all thin and very tall, the rocky shale ground leads to shallow roots, lots of blow downs. Not too many I trust my Sasquatch body in. ETA: Actually the tree you see down mid frame... the root ball is just at the left edge of the frame. The top of the tree went all the way past that little stump on the right side of the frame. (it knocked down a white birch with it mid way) All tall, mostly not too big around.
