The meat gets dirty if you butcher it in the field in Scandinavia.
Nothing a little window insulation film and game bags cant handle. Don't need to do all the cuts, just break it down into manageable sizes to carry. If you can get equipment/vehicles to it i wouldn't bother either. I killed an elk once on private land that was about 400 yards from where we could get a pickup and still was easiest to break it down in quarters.

If I made the rules, things would be different, but alas.

I watch plenty of videos about it so I'm prepared for the day it happens. I've gutted plenty in the field, but never broken one down.

This guy was in sugar beets when I got in stand.

This guy showed up about a half hour later just couldn’t get him close enough. Michigan bow season.
IMG_6168.jpegbachelor group of 12 bucks came out a little bit later. Nonstop action all night.

Kids get off early today for an in service. I'm headed out around 2 with my 8 year old to try to kill his first deer. My 13 year old will be trying it as well. Have a spot with a scrape tree at 20 yards and a fresh stand of rye coming up. I think we're in for a good evening.
follow up. We had a fun night. A long track job, followed by bumping a deer and finding it early this morning.

Lessons to be learned about shot placement and that even slightly quartering to can make for a long night. But the end result is a proud dad, a proud 8 year old, and a dead first deer. Pretty impressed with this kid's composure.

First cold front in a month. I couldn’t get out until 4:30. Hopefully something interesting will come by. My son and granddaughter are hunting over the beans.IMG_7726.jpeg

I’m hunting the last evening of our early 2 day ML season. I’m surrounded by deer and it’s 40 minutes till dark. Biggest so far is a 10 point 3yo that will be a hoss next year.

Edit - now a fight between two more 3yos.

Edit - 3 more bucks and more sparing.

We heard deer, but didn't see anything. When I checked the cell cams, the deer we heard were likely the ones we busted at a water tank going into the blind. I believe they circled around to see what the threat was (us). Didn't see anything else, but I did get serenaded with two songs and lots of questions.

This doe and her fawn heard us coming in. This was the first sit in this south wind blind designed for bow/crossbow shot over this water feature. Things didn't work as planned today, but it was nice hunting with my granddaughter.

Back in the stand, but not for long. The forecast south wind is blowing north and west with 28 mph gusts. IMG_7730.jpeg
Update: Sure enough…Jumped a doe on the e-bike on the way out. The milk weed literally did a 200 yard or more lap around the food plot confirming it was time to throw in the towel.

Got busted by a doe who blew and snorted as she ran off at 7:15 this morning. Why she decided to travel downwind of me I haven’t a clue as it’s not their normal route. Stuck it out to see if I would see anything else would show. About 8:00 one of my better bucks came by. But from above he looked like he might be 14” wide 😂. He has tall tines, some mass, as well as a cool bladed G2, but he is probably only 3 years old. So I let him walk away. Saw 2 other little bucks and a doe. Wind is now howling at 35mph +. Supposed to lay down closer to sunset or it does I will go again tonight.

I’m slumming it again public land. Very windy which helps with these tight setups. I have cover on 3 sides so anything could happen. I do so much better on windy/breezy days than calm ones.

Agreed. I feel so vulnerable on calm days.

No, still missing in action. Just had an 8 point I don’t remember seeing on cam before that will easily go over 200 lbs but score about 135.
😭 I'm sobbing over your "throw-'em-back" 200 lb., 135" peep, Native!!! What an awful situation to have ..... " 'nuther year" bucks like that!! Tough at the Native ranch ....... 👀😲

Best of luck getting the one you want, friend!!
