What is your thoughts on Zetar? I have 1, but it is its first real year with apples. I had tried them a couple weeks ago, but they weren’t ready yet.

I like Zestar for eating.

What spray do you use?

My old spray was a suspension and I did pretty well on insect control with using it the first week of June and first week of July.

I bought the new spray on line during the covid deal and thought it was the same, but it wasn’t.it is not a suspension and needs to be done every 7-10 days.

Martha crab. I had two apples and the first wasn’t quite ripe but still tasted pretty good. I will give this one a few days before trying it.

I grafted Martha this spring be a couple years before I see any apples

Yellow Dog is having a good year. It is not disease free, but is hardy.

This is true dolgo as purchased from a nursery that gets tree from Bailey’s. All of these three pictures were taken this morning.

Some people are selling dolgo seedlings and calling them dolgo. There is a false myth that dolgo seeds are true to the mother tree. This has not been my experience.

That's just wild to me that a seed from a tree can be different from that mother tree. Does it depend on what it's pollinated by? Dolgo's are self pollinating correct?

I guess that is true, but other pollen can be brought in by insects.

I have no understanding of the genetics of apple trees, but I know that two full brothers can also look considerably different.

I just read through Prof. Kent’s copy of the notes on Honeycrisp in an adjacent thread. The U of Mn had said for years who the parents were of it. Then genetic testing proved they were wrong on both accounts. The tests showed one known and one unknown parent for Honey Crisp.

I suspect there is lots of stray pollen floating around our dolgo trees as well at blooming time.

The farmstead plums are about done dropping.

My wife and I drove outback yesterday and sampled the fruit on this un/named dolgo seedling. We both liked it better than the other crabs we tasted and should come up with a name for it.

Yellow Dog topwork here. It produces fruit every other year with very little care. It is NOT disease free but the deer don’t care.
