Have you tried tasting all your seedlings, Bur?
As for seedling trees - we got lucky with 3 seedling apple trees we bought from SLN & planted in spring 2013. $3 per seedling back then. All are big trees and put out lots of apples. LUCK!

Whats your opinion on B118. Got 6 or 7 out of 40 at home on B118, and just planted my 1st one at camp 2 weeks ago. I got 4 trees at home I am correcting some leaning, 2 of them are B118 other 2 are unknown. Nothing severe, atleast yet. They do grow pretty fast though. I suspect they might get a weak root system in rich soils. Seems like they're designed to work well in poor quality soils.

I have one B118 that has bent over. I do have several others that are doing ok, so far.
I somewhat agree with Ben about them being tall and spindly.

How long has that Trailman been in the ground? The one we have left has been a slow grower. Maybe our soil?

Tried a Trail crab (aka Bilodeau) yesterday and was crisp and pretty good. It looked a lot like your Trailman which is not that surprising since related. Seeds were brown but not that dark yet. Someone else on here posted they ripen and soften up pretty quickly so will try another one in a week or so.
Only had 1/2 doz on that little tree or would have tried more. They are smaller than a chestnut crab however.
Would guess that Trailman is a tasty little apple right off the tree if not overripe too.

Semi related note, my bigger chestnut crab was violated again this yr. Would guess raccoons. When younger the critters busted the top off this tree twice.
They completely leave the Whitney crab alone a short distance away. But I share their opinion as well between the two.

I have a Bilodeau ( Trail) as well. Not quite ripe and not as tasty as Trailman IMO.

Never ate a trailman, but have them in the ground. I think tralman is about the best looking apple out there, if thats worth a wooden nickle to anyone. Pretty much half the reason I planted one.
