Crabapple timeline

I agree with you sandbur. This old timber soil has grown a bumper crop of everything.

Lots of sauce or dried apples hanging on just that one limb! 😲 Have you tried tasting all your seedlings, Bur?

As for seedling trees - we got lucky with 3 seedling apple trees we bought from SLN & planted in spring 2013. $3 per seedling back then. All are big trees and put out lots of apples. LUCK!

I try to taste all of them.

Ignore an apple tree in a cage for six weeks and the wild cucumber takes over.

It has happened before…

Whats your opinion on B118. Got 6 or 7 out of 40 at home on B118, and just planted my 1st one at camp 2 weeks ago. I got 4 trees at home I am correcting some leaning, 2 of them are B118 other 2 are unknown. Nothing severe, atleast yet. They do grow pretty fast though. I suspect they might get a weak root system in rich soils. Seems like they're designed to work well in poor quality soils.

I'm not a fan of B118 rootstock - they seem to have trunks that are a little more spindly than normal and the roots seem to be weaker and give out more often than other varieties.

I have one B118 that has bent over. I do have several others that are doing ok, so far.

I somewhat agree with Ben about them being tall and spindly.

Hazen (pictured) and Prairie Magic are dropping some apples but the seeds are a few days from being all brown.

One dolgo is dropping, second one is close to drop. I will probably add dolgo to sauce or make a separate batch.
