Buying Gold? How to do it ....

I don't know if I buy into gold being a hedge against bad times but I could see why someone would get a little of it, I think I would like to have at least something tangible other than watching the stock market jump around for no good reason. Also people collect everything from knives to salt and pepper shakers, why not collect gold

Depends what your goals are. Let's say there are three general goals:

*Total economic collapse
*Hedge against currency debasement
*Speculation

Total economic collapse, I don't see it being very divisible and useful for emergency commerce between producers. Frankly, if the lights go out, there won't be producers to trade with. If the trucks stop and there's no power, nobody is going to have much to trade. You're better off, not with food, fuel, defense, and medicine, but rather the ability to produce food, fuel, separation from danger, and avoiding the need for medicine. Probably not a bad idea to have some, but I wouldn't bet the farm on just bars and coins as a means of survival if we go the way of every other fiat money system in the history of the world run by crooked devil worshiping pedophile bankers.

Hedge? Totally different. I also like Sprott funds. I think at the pace money is being printed now to keep Israel bombing 6+ countries at once will quickly drive the dollar into the ground. I've felt for a while now that precious metals do not match pace with the destruction of the dollar, but they do keep pace with the cost of production. It seems mining is always on the brink of collapse no matter what the gold price is. If they can make money, they blast and leach. If they can't, they stop until the price comes back up.

Speculation? Good luck. There is no honor or law in the commodity markets.

I'm about 7% in vaulted precious metals with Sprott. I don't envision going much deeper from here. It's more a compliment to ultra short term treasuries right now, which I consider both alternatives to cash.

At the risk of going off the tracks... in a full on Hollywood dystopian TEOTWAWKI, the man with a printed map with be king. Not literally, but he'll have knowledge and abilities no one else will.

(and printed pornography will be used as currency, but I can't go into detail because I don't want to give away too much of my movie screenplay) 😉

I would think in the case of an emergency people would start waking up and seeing gold as a physical metal really has little value. If all hell breaks out, I would think people will start realizing that money really hasn’t been tied to gold in many years, and once people realize the actual metals actual value in use, other than being a good electrical conductor that doesn’t corrode as bad as lead, it really isn’t of much value. Sure it makes women’s eyes sparkle when combined with a diamond, but if shit hits the fan, a soft metal that melts easy, doesn’t hold much use.

I’ve ordered gold & silver from Money Metals they are based out of Idaho. I always call in the order . Very nice staff.

I don’t think having some physical gold would necessarily be a bad thing but storing any serous amount would lead to ulcers worrying about it getting stolen.

You never saw the old miniseries Centennial? 😁

^ (ETA: "...after flashbacks about his exploits, Lame Beaver discovers a gold nugget and makes it into bullets for his rifle." )

I figure if the world turns to chaos the best things to have would be guns and bullets. If you have that then you can acquire whatever else you need. jmho

I did invest in some commodities this week. I’ve been working towards a Dogwood strain of garlic and building a strategic garlic stockpile. Well, after this year’s crop success, I’m going bigger. Picked up more for October planting. From here I’ll have enough to grow more and plant back.

Everyone remembers to stockpile the rice and beans. They forget the flavor considerations of the apocalypse.

If I'm gonna end up eating dogwood browse, it's gonna be sautee'd in butter, garlic and a powdered cream reduction with a white clover salad, followed by brined raccoon over the campfire.

Don't forget the chicory.

I can't see someone trading a gold bar during the apocalypse for say a steer.....the steer would be of much more value than a precious metal.

It won't heat a house, or provide any sustenance....but it sure can motivate people in the current market to do all those things for ya.

I can see someone getting shot for a gold bar.

I wouldn't buy gold necessarily for the apocalypse or SHTF day, but having some small pieces of gold would handy for barter. Having nickels & pennies would be important too due to copper and nickel content. Metals in SHTF time will be important. Another one would be lead for obvious reasons 😁

When the warlords start to rise up who knows what will be considered a prized possession. For all we know Bubblicious bubble gum and # 2 pencils may be highly sought after status symbols.

Anybody got any experience with a product like this https://www.combibar.com/
Seems like it would have more value in a SHTF scenario than coins or other forms of gold/precious metals.

I think as a medium of trade during SHTF scenarios.....that 22 bullets, shotgun shells, and common caliber rifle rounds are good trade material. Junk-silver coins, and some silver dollars would be easy to value and trade for things you need. Greenbacks?.....who knows.....but keeping some folding cash is a good idea too.

I always intend to buy some junk silver.....but never seem to get it done.

What is junk silver?
