Bill's knife build

This is cruel to us knife junkies making us wait. Lol
Well I'm sorry about that. But it's my policy even if the build is posted the owner will be the first to see and hold the finished knife. Tracking says Bill should get it Saturday. Hang in there. I do have other finished knives on my Facebook and Instagram pages.

Tooln, you have permission to post the knives you've made for me...

My post was in jest but I do look forward to the reveal. Most all custom edged weapons are a thing of beauty to my eye.

This oak handle is one of the first knives I made.

These are the first antler handle Knives I made with Cat supplying the antler. He got his pick as to which one he wanted.

Here we go, Bill got his knife and gave me the go ahead to reveal it. 20220116_111614.jpg20220116_111640.jpg20220116_111657.jpg
This is a hidden tang with a leather spacer between the wood handle scales. 20220115_145605.jpg

Very nice ... now Bill just has to cover it up with fish guts!

Feel free to show mine too.
I had some technical issues and lost some pics. I have both knives but not with the sheaths and display. I'll let you post something.

Thought I’d add this here since it’s part of the same theme. We need a few different gaffs on the boat. Most production gaffs sink if you drop them? Great repeat purchase ploy.

Bamboo gaffs break unless they are made from Calcutta bamboo. Those gaffs are custom made and expensive.

Cue the redneck engineering…….I built these for my sons birthday.

I sourced my own Calcutta and gaff hooks.
Drilled a hole for the hook peg (didn’t photograph that)
Then used JB weld to hold it in place. As you can see on the blue one I then used paracord to strengthen the bond more.

I then used fishing rod epoxy to seal the paracord. Didn’t film it but but I can swing from a branch on these things and their not breaking. (Not as sophisticated as tooln’s tests.)

For the cushioned handle I went to the craft store and got some EVA foam. It is held on by fishing rod handle shrink wrap.

The second one I decided on paracord handles instead of Eva foam. And broke out the airbrush to go with a Mahi Mahi fish theme.

To keep the epoxy from running as it dried I needed a rod spinner. To cheap to buy one. So I rednecked one.

WoWzer Bill, great custom work there sir!! I especially appreciate the redneck ingenuity!!

No oceans anywhere near me - but that’s still cool!

Come on Bill, seeing you swing from your build would have been a great video for us. Nice job. Cool build.

Nice work!

Question for Tooln -
Is there anything in your shop that you DON'T have?? I see wood finishes, vises, welding equipment, electrical supplies and gadgets .......... looks like you could build just about anything. Nice looking knives!! Antler handles are very cool.

Bill -
I'm not an ocean fisherman, but those gaffs are kick a$$!!! Mahi paint job / color scheme is top shelf. --------------- Great work men!

What you see isn't no where near what I have as far as tools. I've been wrenching on stuff my entire life. When I was punching a clock I spent the last 35+ years as a maintenance mechanic in the dairy/cheese/butter industry, 25+ of those as a lead mechanic, also a card carrying journeymen. Before the mechanic trade took off I did a few years welding and also some construction. Not very often I come across something that I don't have the right tool for. The wife says I need to thin down the tools, that isn't going to happen. Metal working, welding and fabricating are my forte, knife making is just a different form of metal working.
