Welter seed - no more online sales?

greencoverseed.com is another option.

They are a good bunch to work with and always happy to email and chat on the phone about questions.
Try out their Smart Mix Calculator. Its really helpful and a bit addictive.

Looks like they got sick of trying to keep an online store up and running.

They now only take orders over the phone/email/etc.

That's too bad. I hate printing out an order form and mailing/faxing/emailing it. Just seem like something my grandmother would do.

Where else do people purchase seed online?
Mostly weltherseed.com, petcherseed.com and greencoverseed.com but only for seeds I can't get locally. (Plantain, chicory, vetch, lab lab, small burnett). But the majority of seed I buy locally because they are about 1/2 the price and no shipping (cow peas, soybeans, milo, red clover, crimson clover, white clover, wheat, oats, etc)

I just ordered a 50 lb bag of WGF sorghum yesterday. I was on the phone for about 3 minutes.
How much are their shipping rates on 50lbs of seed?

not sure. Give them a call and ask. Good people, you’ll be talking to them and not some girl in India..

I know at some point shipping is free. They have only charged the straight freight costs without extra charges.

With Welter, it depends on the type of seed. You pay UPS or carrier rates. With some seed, Welter pays 1/2 of the shipping. See their web site for details.

Thanks,

I used to order some 50 pound bags of seed from Welter. More recently, I found the prices at Jay-Mar in Plover, Wisconsin, to be better though. Also, I can simply swing by there and pick up what I need without having it shipped. I'm not sure if they ship small orders like that or not, but I suppose a guy could call and ask. Any lime or fertilizer we have had delivered from there has been by large truckload.
