Welter seed - no more online sales?

Looks like they got sick of trying to keep an online store up and running.

They now only take orders over the phone/email/etc.

That's too bad. I hate printing out an order form and mailing/faxing/emailing it. Just seem like something my grandmother would do.

Where else do people purchase seed online?

Are you sure they used to do on-line sales? I've never seen anywhere on their website to place an order. Calling them was all I've ever done.

They never did online ordering. Always had to call it in or use mail in form. If you live in Wisconsin and call order in, you will have seed on the next business day.

Always consider ordering from welters but have yet to pull the trigger. They have some interesting clover varieties I would like to try. Anyone know how they are on shipping? Would like to add some kupo2 to my perennial plot at some point

I've used Welter's for the last 3 years and I order by phone. They will pay 1/2 the shipping for grass seed, forbs, and small-seeded legumes on orders of 50 lbs. or more. I copied that info right from the back page of their catalog. The 1/2 off shipping doesn't apply to grains, DE or Kelp meal. Good prices, very friendly folks to deal with and seed has produced VERY well. I will continue to order from Welter's for our camp. Very satisfied with them.

Sorry guys, I think I had a gray hair moment.... I've ordered in the past and I guess I phoned the orders in. But I'm pretty positive they used to have their items on their site rather than only in a PDF didn't they?

The PDF isn't a big deal other than I can't link to the item for future reference.

Something changed from the last time I used them I'm just too old to remember what :)

I tried to do an online order the first year I bought from them and could not. I've always used the phone order. It has worked well. No operators or transfers. I've had good service from them.

Thanks,

Jack

I've ordered from them for 10 years or so and you could always order in one of 2 ways...Phone it in, or print out an order sheet and snail mail it in. Phone orders were always better because they don't alway have everything that's in their catalog in stock. Items they don't even have could be placed on the mail-in order, only to later find out it's out of stock. That wasn't an efficient use of time and effort. When you actually speak with someone to place an order, you know what you're getting.

I just placed another seed order with them,

Opened up their electronic order form (word.doc) Monday am and filled out what I wanted, saved to my computer. Emailed to them at 6 am, they called me at 8:30 to confirm price & availability and get my cc. Received my order yesterday. I have been ordering from them for 7-8 years now and have always had very good service.

They are probably staying away from online sales as they do not have the in-house resource or want to hire it. Not every company I order online from has service as reliable as Welters.

Sounds they know what their strengths and limits are.

Agree with Tap 100% on the " actually speaking to someone " aspect. I'm completely sick of recorded messages and phone prompts. I really like the fact that Welter's has a person(s) to take calls. Quick, direct info and feedback - plus they enter my order in their computer system right away and I can call later to add to my previously-entered order with no hassle. :emoji_thumbsup:

Ever try Elk Mound Seed? Got seed from them last year and I thought they were pretty reasonable.

Chuck

Yeah I did last year, wasnt too bad. I have a couple real small plots though and when I try to make my own mixes sometimes I only need a pound of this and that. They only sell in 3# or 5# bags (can't remember) and even that is too much sometimes if your dealing with turnips and clovers

That's what I like. They already have my clover mix in the system. It's a small fee and they combine what I want, mix it, then ship in one bag.

I had my order from Welter's delivered 2 days ago and it's all together. I got (2) 50 lb. sacks of their pea / oatlage to try this spring, as well as some other clovers and brassicas. They paid 1/2 the shipping on this order. They've been silky smooth for me - I'm well satisfied. My camp is very happy.

I ordered from welters for the first time on Wednesday am. I honestly never ordered prior as I like to order things online without talking to people. I have enough people talk during the day normally. Was very easy, just over a minute on the phone and my seeds arrived 56 hours later. I am impressed!

I just ordered a 50 lb bag of WGF sorghum yesterday. I was on the phone for about 3 minutes.

Welter's never had online sales as option.

greencoverseed.com is another option.

They are a good bunch to work with and always happy to email and chat on the phone about questions.
