I have found the accuracy of Raindrop to be very inconsistent. I have manual rain gauges at all locations. I use it tell if we got rain in a location, but otherwise I will trust a manual rain gauge to be more accurate.

Lastly my bean/milo field. This also got overseeded right before the rain and the Milo got a nitrogen boost. Should set up great! I’m hanging a stand off the top left (NW) corner of this field at the creek crossing. I should be able to see this and the corn field perfectly and catch bucks cruising between the two. We have a lot of SW winds in the fall and my scent should then blow right up the ditch to my North which is impassible by deer. I like what I am seeing!

How much corn is that, looks great! It looks like in the bottom left corner you may have enough sunlight to broadcast some brassicas for some extra tonnage.Corn looks nice. It’s getting the clover/rye/oats treatment later this fall (oats may be earlier or next spring). Ears were already 8” long and ping pong ball girth before this last rain. They are set up nice.

It’s just 2 acres. That bottom left corner has some funny business. Coon or deer damage I think. A touch in the upper right as well. Those two spots might get the treatment yet. I plan to knock down a path from the bottom left to the top right when the corn matures. About 20 yards wide all the way through. Then tuck a blind in the edge and brush it in with stalks like Don Kisky. That’s for dad. He always wanted to sit in a blind like that. It should help visibility from my future stand at the creek crossing too. I’m looking forward to seeing how all this comes together this fall.

Foxtail. This whole thing is surrounded by new switchgrass. Quite a bit of foxtail in it, but doesn’t seem to have effected the switch growth. Going to burn it this spring and do a Simazine treatment next year.

We got around 2" last night at our home place and 2.5" at the tree farm. Perfect timing as I seeded a few Fall plots yesterday hoping the weather people were going to at least get us a shot of rain. Little earlier than I would have liked, but with an 80% chance of rain last night and a good chance tonight I wasn't going to see if we were lucky enough to get rain at the end of the month.

I think our corn is about to turn the corner to maturity. Wishing my beans would as I am unsure if the baby turnips and radishes are still hanging on under them. I probably lay planted them too early this year. Oh well.
I did pull what I found to be an average ear of corn and WOW! I have coon damage and some other missing rows, but this ear at the pops I planted is 260 bushel corn.
Gonna be another banger year for deer sightings I suspect… My boy is pumped!

I had to do counts for the calculator I found to estimate. It had 17 rows of kernels around the ear and each row had 46 kernels up to the point where they got weird. Also surprisingly the pollination looked great. I checked several ears and all of them were pollinated clear to the tip. Kind of surprised me.
All that said, there is no way this field would yield those bushels. Too much coon damage and I had a row unit start skipping but that is the size ears it made and there are a lot of them. Definitely not ready to quit my day job and rely on my corn growing skills though…
