Rain

We got SUPER LUCKY last night. Had a wall cloud with lots of rotation headed straight towards the house, then another storm popped up behind it and changed it's path. It was only a couple of miles away and strengthening when that happened. Got some rain, some hail, lots of wind, and a spectacular lightening show for the night.

Yea I probably cursed myself... went and picked up my soybean seed this morning as it was too wet to do anything after I drug all the rock back on the driveway at the farm that got washed to the bottom of the hill. There was a lot of lightening last night in certain cells as well. I love a good light show as long as it doesn't hit anything of value or somebody!

The road down to our bottom fields washes soooo bad. Have to drag it back up all the time.

Ha! I thought I was the only one who had to chase gravel after every rain. I actually found something that doesn't was too bad at washing out. My guy calls it 2-3 inch blue rock. It's staying put pretty well.

The neighbor who shares a highway entrance with us over at the farm called the county and complained that they weren't keeping the shoulder up very well where we both turn to come into our driveways. They dumped a load of AB-3 and it has stayed in place well through the rains we have had this Spring. I don't really like the look of it though .... I am kind of a gravel snob! LOL My brother used crushed concrete on his driveway which is relatively steep. It took a few loads but now seems to be stay pretty solid and in place.

We've had such consistent rains that it has eliminated last fall's D3 drought around home.

Still haven't gotten into the fields to plant anything yet. Been raining every other day which has slowed down my tree planting and other projects planned before spring plots.

Supposed to have a creek crossing project completed through EQIP and 3 of the last 4 years it's been dry by May. This year it's plum full which will delay the start of the project. I don't want to complain because I'd rather be wet than drought, especially with our hills, we don't have flooding issues too often.

This is what a tornado warned storm looks like from the backside. Got a bit intense for a while, but we dodged almost everything including the rain…

Man I love those watching those storm clouds that look like that. It looks like we may fall in the gap for the storm front tonight, I am perfectly happy with that.

We have gotten a decent amount of rain this spring in comparison to the past few years. I dont have any corn or beans in the ground yet but i think i'll be able to get them in. Depending on how much time I have after cleaning up the barn that was destroyed yesteday afternoon and the roof from the machine shed that was ripped off. Not a great situation.

However, an opportunity was created. We have talked about taking down the barn for the past ten years. It wasn't in terrible shape but a little to far gone to put any money into it. I'd like to sepperate out all of the good building material and haul it down to our valley property and use it to build a bigger cabin. We will see.

Had tornado whistle go off last night around 7PM. Got very dark and windy very fast. Wife headed to the basement & I to the patio door to see if I could see anything, saw nothing but swaying trees and dark. It lasted about 15 minutes. News last night said a funnel was spotted and straight high wind in the area, but no specific area.

We got 2" yesterday and some tornado warnings that didn't amount to much in the way of severe weather at my place. Very thankful for that, glad to see you are looking at your damage with a good viewpoint @S.T.Fanatic

Patio door is right next to the basement stairs. Good escape route if needed.

That ought to put some water in the pond. You can hear the creek roaring 1/2 mile away if you step outside. My buckwheat is probably all washed into one big pile, but we needed a rain like this. I’ll take it!

Nice! It petered out as it got here. We did get about .20.

We got 2.5" on Thursday and another total soaker today. Flooding everywhere and another 1.5-2" expected tonight.

In East Texas, we have been blessed or cursed, depending on amounts, with plenty of rain this spring. My pond, about 1.5 acres, is running out of the spillway and has numerous times this year. I had to dodge between rains to get my plots in but finally made it.

In other news, in West Texas, Midland to be exact, these hailstones fell last Saturday and caused lots of damage.

Almost ten inches rain at my place for May. First 14 days of June looks like more of the same

We were in a rain shadow last year and only totaled 15 inches for the year at the house. This year is a different story. We are already at 30” for the year with a yearly average of 39”.
