Rain

Corn is really looking good in the rolling crop ground areas!IMG_5548.jpeg

This is insane. So far zero rain in August. Supposed to have gotten rain Friday, sat and Sunday. So far zero. Everything is stopping short. Taking Monday to plant which I may be better off burying a couple hundred dollar bills and coming back to harvest at a later date. The non climate change, climate change, sucks.

I’m on the opposite end.. I’ve got big chunks in my plot that seemed to have failed from being too wet. I have not been to my land in 2024 once since thaw where it wasn’t wetter than what I should be driving a tractor in.

The Midwest is a land of extremes it seems. Last year was solid drought everywhere around here. This year we are about to float away, tired of mowing!

We’ve been in a pretty consistent drought last couple years. It’s depressing

1.5-2” Thursday night for us.

Planted today. Kind of painted into a corner with time so it was now or possibly never. Pretty sure I just spread a couple hundred dollars of bird seed on the ground. Never seen it this dry. Nothing in the 10 day either.

Dry spell for us also but nowhere as bad as last year.

Dry here - burn ban. But that is normal. We dont ever plant until Oct for deer food plots. I usually have to water fruit trees for at least six weeks. Three weeks in - and no appreciable rain in the forecast

I feel for you bud, we had it bad last year, makes for difficult growing conditions.
The other problem is, food plots will be a bust so more deer will flock to bubbas feeder and die now that may have been spared.

That's one reason I try to hedge with spring row crop plantings on my properties. You can always salvage failed fall plots with rye or wheat as I'm sure you're aware.

Yeah I have several acres of clover if push comes to shove. Planted about 7 acres of wheat and rye yesterday which was pointless. I’ll come in later and broadcast some if we don’t turned into Death Valley by November.

I should come visit, I bring the rain with me. Every time I've been "up da camp" this year it's rained. Saturday I went up and brought the leaf blower with me,I wanted to blow out some leaves on my micro plot to expand it a bit. 5 hour drive up it's dry. Literally the minute I get out of the car it starts raining. 🙄
I throw some stuff in the shack and head up the hill to blow leaves. It works, but it takes me four times as long to do a half the work. Well at least the clover seed will get some rain to germinate. I walk back down the hill to get the seeds and it stops raining. (sigh)
EVERY time I've sprayed herbicide this year it's rained that day or the next. Very poor results at best. Lots of wasted time and money this year. There's no way to plan better, I get there when I can get there.
Three times this summer I've brought the (paint) sprayer to spray the sawn timber siding with preservative, three times I brought it home unused because of rain.

This is a named creek with bass and bluegill in it normally. Was over waist deep in turkey season.

Here’s my duck pond. Normally to the tree line.

I don’t have much experience with ehd but I’m getting nervous

Hope you get some of this rain from Francine. We started out with predictions of 2-5" and think it's down to 2-3" now. So far the dust hasn't settled yet and it was supposed to start last night.

Hear that sound…that’s my rain chances from a 200 mile wide hurricane being sucked out the window.

I went ahead and planted my 3 & 2 ac plots Tuesday. Hopefully Francis makes it to southern Indiana, Ohio river valley area.
Started out as 1.5 - 2” of rain over 3 days.
Now 3/4” for tomorrow only.
You can do everything right but you still always need Mother Nature’s help.

Well that rain barely made it to my place outside of Madison IN. Got about .2 of an inch.
Weather forecasters suck. And those fucking idiots want us to believe that they know what’s going to happen 2, 5, 10 years from now. Ya sure thing buddy
