Miscanthus Giaganteus propagation from cuttings.

I've seen zero evidence of any survivors here...still holding out some hope, but I fear winter wiped them out.

Mine from that same batch just started popping last week. Only saw from the seat of the tractor so gonna check more this week.

MN is on a glacier, once it thaws a full 12 inches below the surface they'll be back.

The UofM's landscape arboretum has MG they burned off at some point, and it's at about a foot right now in full sun - that's in the South West Metro. Everything comes back earlier down here.

I've got nothing either, the rhizomes looked alive when I planted them a month ago. Like me nwsg I have some mg planted in my yard so I know exactly how things are progressing.

Checked my miscanthus tonight and it's about knee high, forgot my phone so no pics. I'll get some this weekend.

This is the third gowing year and most of the clumps are a good 2' across.

It finally stopped raining here so I got out and checked things out, too wet for any work. Here's some pics of my 3yr old Miscanthus.

No life out of my newly planted stuff.
im going to be spraying mine for grass every year before the mg emerges. If it emerges.....

I'm going to do my post emergent weed control for my new MxG plantings. I found this from last year, "I just hit my last years cuttings with 2-4-DB and atrazine 3 oz per gallon out of a pump sprayer post emergent and they are doing fine."
Is this still what you guys are using? I'll be using a 4 gallon backpack sprayer as well. Wanted to clarify what rate of 2,4-DB and Atrazine in that 3 oz. per gallon mix you are using?

I sprayed mine the first year before planting and kept it clean that first year, after that I haven't sprayed anything. I am going to spray so 24-D when I get a chance.

I went right over the top of my newly planted rhizomes with a no till drill, containing Egyptian wheat/ sorghum.

Dipper,
If they were going to live that may kill them. Not because you hit them with a drill but they will be shaded out. Unless you went really thin with the sorghum.

Stu,
I would have dug one up by now. You must be way more patient than me.

It's on now!!! Can't wait to see theses in August.

Here is a pic of the rhizomes I planted this year, I had some open areas in my screen I wanted to fill in so there wasn't any prep done. 12-15" tall

I think I might have planted dead rhizomes, mg appears to not be hardy for my area. I've got no life!
Thats why I only bought a small amount. I'm more disappointed that I can't have it!

Ha we had snow, less than normal. I'd say 16"s or so.

Maybe they are just slow than, they were in my garden over the winter, which is extremely rich. I'll give them another week before I count them out for good.

Ya they looked alive when I planted. Is think they gotta make some roots before there's growth top side. I know I'm not being patient.

How cold is it up there???????

My MG in NJ is over 6 foot tall already.

I'll see what the MO MG looks like at the end of the week
