Definitive cuttings propagation list?

I tried my first propagations from cuttings yesterday. I cut some new growth off Carolina Cherry Laurel and direct planted about 30 to form a screen. I used the rooting hormone I bought off Amazon. This is listed online as an easy propagation, so we will see. They will get absolutely no love, just rain and the rooting hormone I used.

I've had good luck potting ROD cuttings directly into a pot by pressing the cutting into the pot until they hit the bottom of the pot. Then I cut the top off an inch or two above soil level. I usually put a bunch of cuttings in each pot and if I water regularly they turn out really well.

Same. Only one or two nodes above the soil. Tall, thin pots work best.

Anybody have a rooting hormone that they recommend?? I've spent $20 on worse things so I'd like to try one. Never used one before.

I just got something off amazon. Don't remember what. anything other then willow or poplar got dipped. Don't know if it made a difference or not.

Thats a party foul in the horseshoe pit......

I picked up the state nursery trees from the local soil and water district. I was supposed to be planting up at camp, but had to work for a sick coworker today.

This was a good year to buy from both entities. Witchazel $25 for 25 had tons of roots. Pussy willows for the same price looked good. Planted 18 at home and keeping 7 for camp. Did the opposite with witchazel, but havent planted the 7 at home yet. White pine and white spruce were $25 for 10. Pine had tons of roots and over 2ft tall with lower braches too. Dogwood was $21 for 10. Planted all of them o the edge of my swamp at home.

You save some money planting your own, but you buy time with quality plants.

I shot a deer about 5 years ago on a place the local soil and water district planted maybe 10 years ago. Also pheasant hunted a spot or two they spruced up with plantings, so I kind of consider it donating to the cause.

They had local lawn / leaf compost 5 big bags for $20. I thought that was pretty good compared to the local big box store.

I want to see last years silky dogwood wake up at camp. Was there 2 weeks ago, they were still sleeping. Looked at weather historically in the area, this past winter was only -18 deg F. Probably will look ok. Tempted to put some sticks in a bag of soil this year again.

This past year folks are hurting more for money. Interest rates were n't great either for land. Guessing trees nurseries did not have a great year. Saw alot of tree sales when places would normally be sold out.

Mine are still where I put them. I wonder what another summer where they are would do? Might get root bound. I’ll have to separate some and see how much root Growth I got. I did have about 20 or so turn brown last summer. Zero roots on those ones.

Saw the same around here. Nurseries and L&G centers are sending out mailings and e-mail notices for extensive sales. Done it several times with few takers.
