I have thought of trying defensive baiting, but have not ever pulled the trigger( no pun intended). So what did you try and why do you consider it a failure?
Sorry you asked a question…what I have been doing the last four years is filling (2) 2000lb feeders in areas I don’t hunt around. First year I fed 11000 lbs of corn in 3 months. The next year I had a grain truck deliver 8000 lbs of protein. The last two years in an effort to save some cost I have been buying 13% protein cow feed. I keep them full from mid August to end of January. Like I said I don’t believe it has my intended purpose. Bucks are going to roam unfortunately.

How long is everyone hunting come mid nov? Just wondering how long I should sit out there this coming Friday evening (how early to get on stand), sat and maybe Sunday?

I can't speak for everyone else, but evenings are dead here. Skunked the last 2 nights (3:00 pm till dark) never even saw a deer. Deer here have been active until about 10:30 in the morning. Saw 11 deer this morning in total.

You guys that live on your land have it made for hunting. I’m 1 hour and 15 minutes away and it probably stops me from hunting 75% of the time.
In the same boat - just have to make it happen when we can! 1hour 45min for me

Had my first all day sit in my life today - wasn't too hard as I was super optimistic about the sit. We've been in the 40s and 50s here and today it dropped to 32. I was expected to see a lot of movement but only had a 2.5 year old 6 point and a spike. I think the bucks might be locked down in thick cover with does in heat. Pushes me harder to create a lot more cover in the off season

Yeah, things appear to have slowed down. Im thinking I’ll just hunt until 10am and then go back out at 3, unless I’m seeing lots, It’s been and odd year. Just closed the door on one in pa, but still trying to get one in Ohio

In my area the middle day cruising picks up towards the tail end of the rut which is right now. I'd hunt mornings in timber until 2pm and either move toward food for the afternoon or call it a day.

I had gotten to my stand late, because I had to work late. It left me about an hour to hunt. I had a decent buck come into the corner of my plot hot on a doe, she ran into the plot, then dashed back out, and the buck was hot on her tail. Thinking I missed my chance, I was bummed. Then the doe came darting across the other corner of my plot with the buck still on her tail, 75 plus yards, through an apple orchard. Then she turned around and darted across the center of my plot, and he was on her, I decided I would make a few grunt noises, and he stopped right in front of my camera for a quick pose before I let an arrow fly. So I got a nice before picture, and an after picture. This guy has been around all fall, but I haven’t seen him while in stand.

I used to be an afternoons only guy but camera and harvest data and recent personal experience have changed my mind. These cold mornings from 8-11 have been best. I’m not convinced on the midday thing unless it’s super cold. Right now, IMO mornings>>>afternoons>midday, but total hours in a good tree around bedding are most important.

If you’re a weekend warrior only, this time of year you should hunt all day if you’re serious. If you have family obligations, get up early and quit at noon.

I like all day sits last week of November, I’ve seen some monsters looking for that last doe.

Mornings have seemed best for me in Nov. I have almost never done all day sits but the amount of mid day pics i got last year was off the charts and even in spots you'd least expect it (middle of plots, right through the yard, next to the road, etc) so i had planned to hunt more mid day this year.

I’m a morning guy. I just feel like this time of year it’s more action. Plus I physically despise spooking deer trying to get out in the evenings
What about spooking them getting in in the mornings?

I just had two 8 points come through, zoomed past my lane, downwind and gone. I’m on public setting up in a new tree and I’m 5-10 yards off from ideal. Next year those things are toast

I lay awake worrying about that too haha. But honestly if I’m going to a spot where I think that’s a real probability I usually end up slipping in as the sun is cracking. I want the world to waking up as I’m making my in. Covers my noise and gives me the ability to see where I’m walking and what’s around me. I never use a light even if it’s pitch black. I hate lights. I’m very intentional about my routes. A lot of times my ingress and egress are different to the same stand.

In hill country I have begun to favor the after sunrise entrance too. Can glass the field and when its clean I use my ebike to get to the woods edge, then slip into the stand as the thermals start to rise. It's been a game changer.

It’s funny when I was younger I used to think I needed to be in an hour before the sun rose just so I didn’t look scared to the old guys! While I do think there are scenarios where getting in long before the sun is appropriate, I’m really changing my morning strategies to mimic what you are saying.

I have 2 doe units, 3 in each one, living in my immediate main stand area, lets say 10-40 acre spread. Since I have to walk thru their "property", they know I'm in there, no matter what route I take in or out. Even if they're away, & I sneak in, once they get within bow range, I guarantee you the matriarch doe knows I'm there. I cannot hide a camera from them either, they find it everytime, the first time they come upon it. Every year same thing. I'm around them enough, & don't threaten them. So while they're wary, and take off when I walk in the morning, they don't blow, & will circle back around, & here they are again, sometimes very quickly, sometimes back in the evening.
That being said, when I'm hunting the rut, I'm not worried about disturbing bucks coming & going to my stands. If those doe will stay in the area, which they do on my place, that's what I need for the bucks to show up.
If I'm patterning bucks during early bow, or even late season w/ food, of course I'll be doing this alot different, & will be paying attention to every detail, including the to and from my stands, wind, weather, etc...

We've always had better luck walking in after daylight. We've shot a number of bucks on the walk in (it almost happened again Saturday, but the buck changed directions at the last minute). I really hate spooking a deer in the dark on the walk in and hear it snort as it runs through a bedding area. I'd much rather wait until daylight so I can see what is in a field before crossing it and spooking anything.

It depends on the spot and the temps. When it’s cold, they get back to bed later. I’ve been seeing bucks right at 0800. I’m getting to the tree at 5:30-6 to set up, so I’m in well before they get there. If your access is through food sources with deer you plan to hunt and there isn’t a back door, then daylight or graylight is better

Montgomery county Ohio seems to have a lot of bucks tending does. I expect things will randomly change over the next week as those "locked down" bucks leave their does and go looking for something new.

The biggest bucks have been absent from cameras for two or three days, and the young ones are goofing around and hanging out with doe groups. I saw a small 6 point "spar" with a button buck on camera. Funny to see that.

Yeah, quieted down in Ohio big time. This is the latest I will have bow hunted, this weekend. I’m in Jefferson county.
