Live from the stand thread

No snow down by you bueller?

Took a short lunch break and relocated to a ridge on my pop's place.

Back at it too. Last peaceful sit. The war starts tomorrow.

The red coats are coming!

Ended up seeing 8 deer 5 of them bucks. Had a spike right under my stand. 1 shooter but he was with his latest girlfriend and they were not coming by. Started getting a bit windy so left at 11. Son is home from college so we sighted in the guns for next weekend. Might try 1 more sit tomorrow morning before gun season. Good luck everyone and Peeps hope your kid is feeling better

Finally worked off nights this morning. It's been a busy year for us, but Chuck and I are in the stand for a bow hunt tonight then our slug season opener is tomorrow!
I'm in my stand overlooking a natural trail here, the deer top Toombs hill then head to my place.
Big white oak to my left has dropped loads this year and in the pic with my bow in it you can see our young orchard, part of it, in the distance.
Good luck all!

Cold front finally reached us... instead of mid 80s like last week we're down to 70 now, with wind out of northeast at 9. Down right nippy! :emoji_wink: Cams show rut having kicked in hard this week. Lots of daylight chasing. 6 deer in early. Giving a young 9 point a pass so he's camping out in front of me.

He finally decided to chase. Glad temptation is removed! :emoji_slight_smile:

I saw 5 deer total, had a doe within 10yds. She never blew at me, but finally could tell something was up and turned and walked off. Chuck had two in his plot, both does.

That's funny right there.

Just curious how old is that Florida deer? Do there necks swell up during the rut?
If he was here I call him one darn high potential 1.5 year old in July. :). No clue down there

I know my brother lives in Crestview and gives me heck about the weather up here. Was -3 when I went to the stand this morning. Still would not trade, I love winter

Bill, I'm guessing 2.5. While not obvious in the picture he was bigger-bodied than all of the does in the field with him, though one older doe was more square-bellied than him.

Necks do swell with our bucks, but definitely more obvious with bucks 3.5 and older. Have seen one or two over the time we've owned our place that looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it's been the exception and not the norm.

Good many 1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 year olds in this video I've shared before (apologies if you've seen it). Pretty sure buck staring at the camera exactly 2 minutes in is at least 4.5 and body-wise is about as big as I've seen, though have seen a few fatter old bucks on the declining side of things. The 10 point with the big brow tines is the deer named "Bo" I killed last year and still struggle looking at the teeth to decide if he was 3.5 or 4.5... definitely was no older as his teeth looked great, had almost no wear. Wish I felt more confident on ages, but honestly only have an easy time with buttons and 1.5 year olds that range between spikes to small basket shaped 6s for the most part.

I did see that. But it was as good the second time.
Some good bucks on it for anywhere.

Thanks, Bill. No crazy monsters yet this year, but for the moment this 8 is one of 2 on the hit list, "Irma" being the other if I don't hesitate on him.

Not 100% sure what buck this is, but looks bigger-bellied than the thin 9 I was eyeballing tonight. Looks a bit more swollen-up as well. Came out Monday evening after I had hunted Sat & Sun but couldn't make it home in time to get out Mon.

Hope everyones Saturday started better than mine. Two deer just after sun up.

On the plus side I'm not the only one. Rifle fire is light. Only 1 shot could have been a deer I'd know. Supposed to rain this afternoon and tomorrow. Hope it comes soon :).

I know that's not nice but it does keep the orange number down

Saw small buck with a doe. She looked to be teasing him haha. Warmer than yesterday by 20 degrees. Almost feels balmy at 25 compared to -3
