Road hunters. That's why we planted Norway spruce 20 yrs. ago along the one road that boarders our property. They make a perfect living, green WALL. We copied what we saw another camp had done further along our mountain. Now most of the camps have followed suit. Sure cuts down on the front-seat " hunters " !!

Happy to hear you're seeing so much game, H20.

Thanks,

I've got about four hundred yards of road front to block off.
So far I have planted forty five potted spruce from 3' to 6' tall along the road and have 50 Norway 50 hemlock and 50 white pine bare root all 4'-5' ordered for this spring to plant along the road, along with putting the spoil pile from digging ponds along road front this past July. Planting switch/bluestem and Indian grass on spoil pile.

I will have to plant another bunch of trees to finish it up in spring 2018.

Would love to see the warden bust the road hunters out for chasing deer with trucks every gun season.

Went out Saturday afternoon -3, had four big gobblers come through then fifteen does&fawns then a flock of sixteen turkeys.
Sunday it was a balmy 12 degrees had the four gobblers again then ten does and fawns.

Finally looked like it was going to happen...a small herd of seven does and fawns headed my way with a nice 150ish stud with them. At about 350 yards I hear truck horns blowing...three trucks two south and one east were blowing their horns to turn the deer...well the deer ran back into the river bottom because of some slob road hunters that are too lazy to get out of their trucks and really hunt...where the heck is a warden when you need one.

That stinks.

11 baldies this afternoon. A few wanted to get in the ladder with me.

Jake and I are chasing turkeys. Well I'm watching a big tom at 125 yards with 3 hens. This is what he is doing:

Better stop letting him take his phone to bed.:emoji_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Finally got the perfect wind to try some calling for fawn munchers. Electronic caller is the dark spot in field right above my barrel.

Any action?

Just got in...no action. Ended up seeing three bucks and one doe. The doe was 60yds from caller and wasn't phased at all with the rabbit distress blaring and the decoy twirlig.

Here was the doe feeding as the caller was doing its' thing. Doe on the left and the caller is the dark blob in field, right side of pic.

They are simply different animals this time of year.

4 or 5 months from now she would have high tailed it if the call even wiggled!

Didn't see anything this morning but it was kind of a treat to show up and have wet ground today. It wasn't saturated or really even muddy but wet is good after five weeks with no rain and temps in the nineties. It was 66 degrees this morning with a high of 74 today.

One shot Jake and I are out for the first evening of WI youth season. It rained all day, just stopped an hour ago. Nothing so far but dusk is approaching. Fingers crossed!

Bowhunting at home. Three cranes in my plot, but just heard a rifle shot from nearby public land.

Is there anything quite like a sunrise or sunset with great fall colors ??? The trees just glow. Add the crisp air and the smells of fall and you have a win even if you don't get a shot at a deer at that point. Makes me happy to be there every time !!

Thanks for sharing, John !!
