Last fal lwas odd in that it was the first year I was really looking for live oak acorns for growing trees and the live oaks in my neighborhood, local parks, and all around town didn't produce a thing. We have a massive live oak at the entrance to our subdivision that usually drops tons of acorns and it don't drop a single acorn last year. The live oaks at the soccer fields 10 miles away dropped a bunch. Something happened last year during pollination and none around town were pollinated, but it didn't affect the oaks at the soccer field.
Maybe your oaks are behind or the acorns are too high up and too small to see right now. Wait another month and go look again. Hopefully they will surprise you and still produce enough for you to hunt over. Good luck.
