Back in the late 70's early 80's I used to make some pretty sketchy wood stands nailed in trees that I wouldn't even think of using today, they did work. I had never even heard of a safety harness back then....the new stands and gear are definitely quantum leaps ahead of the good old days, seeing a deer or two in a week while bow hunting was something in my area.
