Shearwood Forest
5 year old buck +
Looks like corn and beans were both a success on planting and the electric fence seems to be doing an excellent job deterring deer. Outside the fence the corn is heavily browsed and the beans are chewed to the ground inside it's doing great. We got a few missed spots and wider than we wanted bean rows but I plan to come back with brassica after I'm sure I'm done spraying. We
sprayed with an ATV last week and hit between the fence and missed areas with a back pack sprayer this weekend.
Also have some second year switchgrass screening getting chest high. Some wet spots didn't turn out real well but there's at least some switch around the entire planted area.
I had another area where I was going to test corn unfenced but it was too wet in June. I pivoted and planted sun hemp and sorghum this weekend, a bit late and will face some hot weather but it was better than leaving wide open ground for weeds to take over.
Also did spraying maintenance on clover, trying a new herbicide to hopefully help the yellow nutsedge problem that is my main issue after these wet springs.
Mowed out some areas to be sprayed that will be tree planting areas as well.
Putting the plan together for fall plots. I'm thinking about trying another efence area on a smaller plot that often gets browsed to heavy and soon to carry much forage into season.
