Well if you believe in the sort of thing...I had a little divine assistance this morning....
I was the only one to get up this morning so I decided to go to a stand that hasn't been hunted yet. I had two options and wasn't sure which one to go to0 SO I am having this discussion in my head on the dark as I am walking across the field. Then...I see what I thought was a shooting star. It was straight overhead and headed right to one of the 2 stands I was considering. Well who is going to argue with a hint like that?!?
So I settled in and was feeling pretty good. It was roughly 30 out with a light breeze in my face....
So here is my set-up and my westerly view
So I am expecting the deer to come from the west from the thick area west of the cut beans of my stand with them either hitting the plot to simply crossing the field to access the standing corn... It had been cold so I figured the deer would be seeking the corn... They like the low spot you can see in the pic of my view in the field so I was watching that area pretty closely.

Well about 8:30 I am none to happy because my bullet proof plan was failing. I had seen 1 deer that was 300+ yards away all morning.... I stood up to stretch a bit and to look around and take a peek at the standing corn. I had been keeping an eye on it as well just in case, but still had not seen anything.
Then a deer pops out of the corn in the neighbors field....I could see it had a rack and was a decent deer. I thought for sure he was going to go right to the other stand I was considering. But instead he didn't. Now the property line from my stand is roughly 200 yards. That's not a shot I am willing to take off-hand. So I had to wait.... and sure enough the buck takes a route like he is heading to the low area in my field. I popped him the first time at about 100 yards and he mule kicked and started trotting.... I was leading him ready to take another shot when he stopped. He didn't go down so I popped him again. That dropped him! After gutting both shots where lung shots and one nicked the heart.
He isn't the biggest buck, but he fits our harvest rules (wide as his ears) and we need to fill a freezer. Clean 8 points, 16" outside and live weight of 215. He isn't one of the bucks we had our eye on, but sometimes you take what the good lord provides. Maybe one of my kids gets a bigger one or they live another year and we get to chase them again next year....who knows.
