New Property in Minnesota

Ok
The river going through the property is pretty good for fishing as well. Generally trout, but some early season Walleye according to the family. I like the idea of the ponds, however, freezeout is an issue. There is an abandoned pond just north of the right greenhouse in the picture. Even as deep as it was, they couldn’t keep things alive due to freezeout (Remember, Tower holds the state record for cold, at -64). As for bear hunting, that may be the focus. The bears hit the berries hard when in season, and I don’t think it would take much to get them to pattern over time. The downside is that I missed signing up for points by a couple of days. From what I can tell, it will be three years before I’ll qualify for an out of state tag. At least I have the reminder on my calendar now.
I got two family members hunting bear on my property this year. took 5 years to get a tag. I am now a non-resident for bears (got lifetime deer, small game and fish) and if memory serves......MN want about $500 for me to get a bear tag. I'd rather shoot a Hereford cow.....than give MN $500 for a bear tag.....on my own land even.

The Non-resident bear hunting licenses cost $231, which is not bad. For me the attraction is harvesting a bear on family property. If it takes 5 years, that hunt may not happen. Maybe Timberwolves will be on the menu by that time :-)

If you’ve got power out there already, you can beat freeze out with an aerator. I don’t think the extra power would cost $25/mo. Make the ponds deep enough too.
