Different types of food plot seed

I may have missed this in the thread but wanted to get thoughts on this system. I plant about an acre food plot (pretty limited options) and I tend to plant in August because the deer and weeds generally crush whatever I plant too early and its a waste. Just curious if this actually works or is beneficial:

I've done this fairly often over the yrs. I just broadcast some wheat or rye into my plots if a rain forecasted (not very often in fall). I can't tell you if it makes much difference as my plots are used on a regular basis anyway and I haven't done a side by side comparison plot with this system. Still, it's worth a shot if I have time and seed, and it certainly doesn't hurt to do it.
